Test / Quarken 27, a similar layout from bow to console

In this second part of our test, we take a look at the layout of the three versions of the Quarken 27. Although the cockpit differs, the deck layout remains similar from bow to stern, as does the cabin with its double berth and toilet.

A similar hull, an asymmetrical deck layout

The Quarken 27 has a hull length of 8.35 m, a beam of 2.59 m and a weight of 2,300 kg for the Open and T-Top versions, and 2,500 kg for the Cabin version. The deck layout is asymmetrical, with an off-center console on the starboard side, and a passageway to the bow via the port gangway. All models are approved in category C, for coastal navigation. The lines are modern and flowing, with a fairly narrow beam, in keeping with Scandinavian design. The hull is marked by a vertical bow and a deep V, which deflects sea spray well.

A unique configuration from bow to console

As explained in Part 1 of our test, the deck layout of all three models - Open, T-Top and Cabin - is similar from bow to console. We begin our visit with the foredeck, accessible via two small steps to save space in the cabin. The polyester block is glazed to let light into the cabin.

A simple, well-designed cockpit

In Open and T-Top versions, the console is protected by a reverse windscreen, which provides excellent protection against sea spray. In the T-top version, protection from the sun is increased tenfold. The cockpit, with its two Garmin screens, is a good size and offers just enough room to install the necessary navigation equipment. The throttle is within easy reach.

A small cabin with a double bed

Entry to the interior cabin is via the companionway on the port side of the console. Here you'll find a double berth with a toilet block and sink. Although the space is quite limited, the model being only 8 m long, we appreciate the shipyard's choice to have thought about the comfort of its customers. You can easily change in privacy, or take a nap before heading back to port.

Multiple seating configurations, kitchen...

So far, the configuration is similar for all models. This is where things change. The cockpit layout of both open models is totally modular, with numerous configurations and storage options. For example, you can choose between a meridienne, a saloon, bench seating facing the sea, or helm seats facing the saloon. Each model can be customized with a choice of seating, galley configurations, water sports or fishing equipment.

In the T-Top version we tested, the cockpit featured three comfortable seats pivoting towards the saloon, a central bench seat with a removable backrest - which also doubles as a sunbed - and a galley aft of the open cockpit. In the Cabin version, the cockpit accommodated two seats and a double bench seat aft of the glass cabin door. The cockpit - still open to the rear - gave way to a storage locker with bench. Numerous storage compartments are easily accessible under the cockpit benches.

Exclusively Yamaha engines

At the stern, long bathing skirts frame the engine. Equipped with a swim ladder, they facilitate both bathing and boarding. For the engine, Quarken has opted for an exclusive partnership with Yamaha. All three models are powered by a 300 hp engine.

Quality materials and customization options

The layout of the Quarken 27 remains simple, but of good quality, without too much unnecessary equipment on board. Owners can also personalize their boat in terms of equipment and materials.
