The Terra Nauta 30, a comfortable and sporty neo-classical Croatian gozzo

Active for more than 15 years, Croatian shipyard Terra Nauta delivers the Terra Nauta 30, a 9-meter gozzo. With an outboard motor, it brings a sporty character to this welcoming neo-classical unit. Take a pictorial tour on board.

A real gozzo

Introduced to the market some fifteen years ago, the neo-classical gozzo concept, inspired by traditional Mediterranean hulls, has been adapted by a number of shipyards, with the emphasis on on-board comfort and moderate-speed cruising.

Croatia-based Terra Nauta offers two models, 30 and 40 feet long. The Terra Nauta hulls are vacuum infused, with the emphasis on handcrafted finish and woodwork.

A cozy, ergonomic deck layout

We climb aboard via the beautiful, large rear bathing platform, emblematic of the gozzo. The omnipresence of wood is immediately impressive. The shipyard has not skimped on teak on board, giving the boat a cosy, high-quality feel.

The model we visited was equipped with two 500 hp outboards, although a 300 hp single-engine version is also available. There is no inboard version on the 30-footer, but this motorization is offered on the higher model. This outboard configuration doesn't encroach on the bathing platform, while adding attractive volume to the interior layout.

Access to the cockpit is via a wide, unenclosed gate. The L-shaped bench seat can be converted into a sundeck, and faces an imposing galley. This is equipped with a beautiful teak chopping board, topped by two stainless steel handrails. A grill and sink are located on either side. The refrigeration unit and cupboards occupy the lower space.

The cockpit is accessed via a small step. The half-moon dashboard is impressive, and all controls are within easy reach. The driving position can be adjusted to suit the size of the rider, but visibility to the front will be restricted for shorter riders.

At the bow, the large sundeck is easily accessible and circulation on the foredeck is excellent. An attractive stainless-steel balcony surrounds the whole, and solid anchor fittings are fitted in the anchor locker.

Facilities designed for short cruises

After descending three steps, you reach the interior fittings. On the port side, the breakfast point allows you to prepare a small snack.

Below the companionway, the midcabin offers a 180 cm by 140 cm double bed, ideal for children or young adults. The shower room houses the shower and WC, with a headroom of 1.9 m.

Forward, the saloon converts into a large double berth, measuring 180 cm by 160 cm. As on the deck, the overall finish is of a very high standard, with teak omnipresent.

With plenty of storage space, a family with two children can easily set up for a multi-day cruise.

Performance and pricing

With its two 250 hp blocks, the Terra Nauta 30 exceeds the 40-knot mark and lifts off in less than 5 seconds. Its cruising speed is around 28 knots, giving it a range of around 250 miles. This performance is in stark contrast to the "slow cruising" character usually reserved for gozzos, and opens up new horizons for this versatile boat.

Available for around ?270,000 incl. VAT with this dual engine configuration, it remains highly competitive with its Mediterranean rivals.
