My second hand boat / Leader 7.5 DC Series 2: "Seduced by its elegant lines and user-friendly cockpit"

In the large Leader family, the 7.5 DC Série 2 is a model that is not very common in France. Cyril, owner of "Mc Fly" since 2021, describes his boat and its program, and what attracted him to this small day cruiser

A North American-inspired day-cruiser

When launched in 2010, it was the flagship of the Leader range. Designed for light cruising and water sports, it measures 7.35 m and accepts a maximum engine output of 300 hp. With its day-cruiser design, it competes with models built by American shipyards.

Clean lines on a beautiful hull

Based in Paris, but originally from Malouin, Cyril spent a long time sailing the English Channel aboard his family's sailboat:

" I'm originally from Saint-Malo. As my father was aging, we replaced our Jeanneau Fantasia with a Leader 7.5 DC Series 2. Ordered in 2020, it was delivered to Saint Malo in 2021. We chose this model for its exterior design, which reminds me of the lines of a Riva or a Chris Craft.

The hull is really adapted to the conditions we encounter in the Western Channel. At times, the sea rises copiously all at once. The hull gives us very good course keeping, which I find more assertive than on previous models I've had the chance to try out ".

An eclectic program

The Malouin basin offers a great playground, and the Leader 7.5 DC has the features to play on several levels:

" We do a bit of everything. We usually sail to Jersey or Guernsey, Saint Quay Portrieux, but not much further. We limit ourselves much more than with our sailboat. As soon as 20-25 knots are established, the boat gets sprayed and sailing becomes less pleasant. It's a boat that's more exposed than a cabin cruiser or a Barracuda ".

Sufficient performance for monoskiing

Cyril has chosen a 250hp Suzuki block to power this hull, which is capable of 300hp maximum power:

" The 750 DC is a little heavy, displacing 2.5 tons. It lifts off the ground relatively quickly, but we're still maxing out at 35-36 knots. I'm a little disappointed by the top speed, because I like speed. I do a lot of monoskiing, so lift-off and torque are top priorities. I have a hydraulic control, which lacks a bit of responsiveness. But these shortcomings quickly disappear. When 5 or 6 people are on board, the boat is very welcoming. The cockpit bench seat is very convivial and welcomes everyone in great comfort.

What's more, it fails easily, especially when flat. You can go fishing on foot and enjoy these moments to the full.

In terms of options, the main one selected is the bow thruster, which is a bit like my guardian angel when I need to catch up on a manoeuvre ".

What next?

" We want to go further afield and take advantage of the habitability of Leader. This summer, we're planning to do a little coastal cruising, staying on board for 2-3 days in an outer harbor ".
