Test / The Flipper 900 ST on test, an exemplary hull is discovered

For the test of the Flipper 900 ST, we are sailing in the bay of La Rochelle. Despite the summer season, the sea conditions will allow us to seek the limits of this hull.

Ideal as a family

The 900 ST is the flagship of the range of this Finnish manufacturer. In this Sport Top version, it is equipped with a large windshield around the cockpit and a fully opening roof. A boat that will therefore be as comfortable in strong sunshine as in the deepest part of a depression. With its very closed cockpit and easy access to the foredeck, the 900 ST is perfectly suited to family sailing.

28 knots cruising, 42 knots peaking

Powered by two 200 hp Mercury V6 engines, at a top speed of 5800 rpm, the boat reaches almost 42 knots (41.9 to be exact). The good cruising speed is around 28 knots at 4000 rpm. In this case, both engines consume about 56 l/h. That is 2.05 l/miles.

The purr of the V6s is particularly pleasant to the ear and the very marked V of the hull makes you want to push them to the maximum.

A very pronounced V-shaped hull

Indeed the marine behaviour of this boat is exemplary. She goes through the waves without worrying about it in great comfort for the crew since she does not knock. On the other hand, this deep V generates a very significant heel when entering a very tight turn. By forcing, it is possible to bring the liston close to the water. A situation that may surprise some of the crew, but without creating the slightest risk. As standard, the Flipper 900 ST is equipped with flaps that are useful when sailing crosswind to maintain the boat's trim.

2 independent double cabins in less than 9 m

With the possibility to close the rear of the cockpit completely, the Flipper 900 ST offers a nice living area. There is a central corridor leading to the cockpit. At the front, the cabin occupies the V of the bow. It can be transformed into a saloon with benches. A bathroom with shower and toilet completes this interior. The galley is outside in front of the saloon table. This one goes up and down electrically.

Under the aft sundeck, a cabin accessible from the cockpit, illuminated by a large porthole across the entire width of the boat, is designed for 2 adults to sleep in a real bed. Note the numerous well-finished stowages with tricks to protect the technical accessories from personal belongings. Very well equipped as standard, we appreciate the finishing touches such as the leather handrails or the USB sockets in the cabins.
