Discovery / Rhea Trawler 34, a bunch of tips for short cruises

Announced two years ago, the Trawler 34 was finally introduced in the fall of 2019. This model, only 10 m long and inspired by the Trawler 36, is full of tricks and innovations. With the Trawler 34, Rhea Marine successfully returns to the trawler market with a well designed, smart and beautifully finished boat.

Quality entry-level products

If the construction of the Rhea Trawler 34 took a little longer than expected - the fault lies with the purchase of the Rhea Trawler 34 by the Experton-Revollier group (Wauquiez and Latitude 46) - it is only for the best.

While the polyester is made in Poland, the boat was assembled in France, at the new shipyard in La Rochelle. Previously, the Trawler range, consisting of the 36, 43 and 47 was manufactured in Turkey. The interior joinery is the fruit of Wauquiez's know-how and is of great beauty.

For the creation of its new Trawler, Rhea Marine called upon the same architect - Yann Chabaud - and took over the concept developed on the 36 and all its good tricks, namely the two side wheelhouse doors, the manual or electric deployable transom, the retractable swim ladder... We also find the coupe doors, but this time they are sliding, malin?!

Numerous innovations

Designed to sail as a couple, the Rhea Trawler 34 is malin?! On board, there are many tricks to make life easier for its owners. Starting with the two doors at the aft end of the side decks that protect the cockpit from spray while sailing or from the wind at anchor. We also appreciate the galley worktop that can be easily installed outside by deploying two stainless steel supports and a plank hidden under the first one.

The interior is warm without having the too classic side that wood can bring. We appreciate the cosy and comfortable side of the furnishings, but also the quality of the finishes (fish drawing on the upholstery, but also inlaid in the wood, fabric snap fasteners, stainless steel finishes, leather handles...). The work is admirably done.

The galley is located on the starboard side and offers all the necessary equipment for life on board: sink, hob, oven, storage, refrigerator. Opposite, the saloon consists of an L-shaped bench seat with a table that can be moved for the night. The front part of the bench converts into a co-pilot's bench with a tilting backrest.

If required, the saloon can be transformed into an additional bed by folding out a real bed base at bois?! The big confort?!

At the bow of the boat, there is a beautifully designed storage area on the port side and a steering position on the starboard side combining modernity and classicism with a superb wooden steering wheel as a steering wheel or chrome dials for the various gauge controls. The space is large enough to accommodate navigation screens or a joystick. The driver's seat is well upholstered and has a seat that folds up to allow you to drive upright.

The space is bright with lots of glass and well ventilated with the many sliding doors that allow both passengers and air to circulate.

You'll have to get to the lower deck to appreciate the ingenuity of the Trawler 34. Because if the boat is designed to live with two people, it can nevertheless offer two cabins. Indeed, the large owner's cabin located at the front of the boat and having a second berth can easily be split in two. Indeed, the bulkhead conceals a door on rails that slides easily to separate the two spaces. This makes it easy to entertain friends or children on board.

A bathroom with washbasin, toilet and shower completes the lower deck facilities.

Another trick, the stairs of the descent are transformed into easy access to the technical hold. No need to use the hatch hidden in the main deck floor. A hot water tank or a freezer can be added to this large space and have easy access to the engine hold.

Single or twin-engine

The Rhéa 34 is groundable, trademark of Rhéa and can be powered by a single or twin engine. With 2x250 HP, it reaches the maximum speed of 21 knots and finds its cruising speed at 11 knots.

It is available in a fly or sedan version. In the first version, there is a second cockpit. Here too, there is a trick which consists in pivoting the back of the pilot's seat to transform it into the back of the saloon bench seat. There is also a winch with a winch - yes, Rhea Marine owners are often former sailors - to store the dinghy on the fly.

Clever, clever, and really well finished

As you may have seen, the Rhea Trawler 34 is a clever little floating house, designed to make life easier for its owners. If there is nothing to complain about in the design and layout, the only thing left to do is to validate the boat's marine behaviour.
