Les Petits Salés: a video contest reserved for young people to tell the story of the sea

Starting July 20, 2018, the Les Petits Salés video contest will open. Reserved for young people aged 12 to 25, this challenge consists of making a video to tell the story of the sea in a 2-minute sequence shot, i.e. without editing. The theme is broad and must appeal to emotion, to memory, to have a strong link with the sea and the maritime world. To your cameras!

Telling his sea

Pierre Marcel (NDRL: director of the film Tabarly) is passionate about the sea. To share his love of the maritime world, he launched the Projections salées in Lorient "These are free film screenings open to everyone around the world of the sea" explains Catherine Ecarlat, in charge of competition communication.

And to reach the youngest, the director launches a competition dedicated to 12-25 year olds, Les Petits Salés. The idea is to allow young people to talk about the sea, about"their" sea through a short video of 2 minutes.

"Pierre Marcel wanted to launch this contest to reach young people. In the Salt Projections rooms, there are more adults than young people or children. We offer them here an interactive contest, with fun and attractive tools, especially since the video and their current expression tool" catherine explains.

A 2 minute video

The particularity is to produce a sequence-plane, i.e. without editing, without software with a free soundtrack. It will therefore be necessary to think carefully about the video before production and anticipate its shooting. The video can be a creation or an archive extract.

On the theme, no constraints either, as Catherine explains "The theme must be linked to the sea, to discovery, to emotion. It can be a film or a book and not just a maritime video so that those who do not have access to the sea or the coast or who do not go on holiday by the water can participate." "We propose a very broad theme, where we can be creative and offbeat, it will then be up to the jury to decide," she adds.

This contest is obviously open to all the children of the territory, aged 12 to 25, even if the organization expects a majority of videos from the coast and especially from Brittany.

Videos must be sent from 8 a.m. on July 20, 2018, until 6 p.m. on August 20. A dedicated website will be launched shortly (the day the competition is launched), in the meantime, it is possible to find the necessary information on the Projections Salées website.

Payment

Participants must present a video that retranscribes an emotion, a message, a testimony, a vision or a contemplation with the sea, the ocean and its wide environment as a backdrop or subject.

All types and types of videos are accepted. Films can tell a real story (a documentary) or an imaginary one (a fiction). Videos can also be animated films, clips of an original work (music, choreography, sketch, etc.), testimonials, playful or educational videos, etc.

Prizes to be won

3 to 5 videos will be awarded. The jury will be able to elect its favourite video via an online vote, while the competition jury (NDRL: which could be composed of photographer Pierrick Contin and skipper Thibaut Vauchel-Camus) will choose its own according to precise criteria: adequacy with the maritime theme, quality of the video writing, technical quality, originality. Special mentions will also be issued.

The first prizes will go to sea on prestigious boats, a classic yacht and a racing multihull. The latter is the Multi50 "Solidaires En Peloton - ARSEP" of skipper Malouin Thibaut Vauchel-Camus, sponsor of the event, engaged on the next Route du Rhum - Destination Guadeloupe.

Other prizes to be won include a Go-pro camera, a sailing school internship, etc.

A preview screening

The videos will be awarded in preview of an exceptional screening of the Projections Salées (NDRL: during which Tabarly, the film will be screened) on Bon Secours beach in Saint-Malo, on August 22nd.
