On the occasion of a photo contest #myportforTurku organized by the European Commission, European citizens were invited to publish on social networks up to 3 photos of their favourite ports in Europe. In total, 3000 sea, fishing, historic, cruise, inland and commercial ports are part of our European heritage. 579 photos were collected, highlighting 166 ports, from 234 authors, in 24 European countries.
The 5 most represented ports are Trieste and Venice in Italy, Hamburg in Germany, Cork in Ireland, but also Saint-Malo in France. The 5 most represented countries are France, Spain, Italy, Germany and Croatia.
The 50 most beautiful photographs were exhibited in Turku, Finland (oldest Finnish port) on the occasion of European Maritime Day, then at several other sites throughout 2016. During this day, the 10 most beautiful photos were also distinguished among the 50 exhibited. Then set off to discover the 10 most beautiful ports in Europe!
