Princess R35, when foils go hand in hand with comfort

Princess R35, a hydrofoil dayboat for the Princess Yachts yard

Even if Princess Yacht worked on the technological side of the boat - foils, carbon hull, maximum speed of 50 knots - the deck layout and the comfort on board are not to be outdone. To reinforce its top-of-the-range image, the British shipyard has worked a lot on the interior design of the Princess R35, its first dayboat, with foils.

A luxurious and comfortable interior

The living space promises a luxurious experience with innovative equipment, a well-protected central steering station, a state-of-the-art audio system and comfortable flooring.

"The R35 is a rare blend of elegance and technology taken to the extreme. Often, design and beauty triumph over function or function over beauty. Princess has been able to develop a technologically revolutionary yacht that is also incredibly beautiful. It is both a brand new range for the yard, which nevertheless remains instantly recognizable as belonging to the Princess Yachts yard" explains Antony Sheriff, Executive Chairman of Princess Yachts.

Design by Pininfarina !

For the design of the boat, Princess called on the Italian bodybuilder based in Turin Pininfarina, known for designing some of the most beautiful cars in the world. However, defining the design of the R35 required a lot of work, requiring both an innovative look, but lines reminiscent of its Princess brand. As a result, over 100 preliminary drawings were created by the Italian bodybuilder and Princess Design Studio before finding the final design.

A play of light

The hull has the bow straight and tuliped on the front (to clear space in the cabin) was developed with 3D modeling software to study the clarity, movement of light and reflection on the boat's surfaces. One last important fact since the hull and deck are painted in highly reflective metallic colours.

At the helm like in an airplane cockpit

The central steering station houses a bench seat for 3 people - which can move forward or backward - and the pilot can drive either seated or standing for a better driving experience. The instrument panel has enough space to accommodate two 17-inch Volvo Garmin touch screens that display continuous engine and on-board data. We manage all the embedded systems, but also the use of foils.

The screens include both imaging and audio (Naim). There are several watertight speakers and a subwoofer on deck. The instrument panel also features a USB charge and autopilot. The anchor locker is equipped with an electric anchor windlass to lift the anchor by 16 kg.

Sunbathing mandatory

The cockpit is well protected by a wrap-around windscreen while two other glass walls installed on the freeboards protect the cockpit. This allows easy access to the foredeck via the glass framed passageways (which serve as handrails at the same time). The gangways continue to the aft bathing platform, but according to the first 3D visuals will not be able to be used to move on board. It will be necessary to pass on the large sunbathing which overhangs the double platform, equipped with a hand shower of hot and cold water to rinse after a bath in salted water.

Safety cockpit

At the stern of the cockpit, a U-shaped seating area with a folding and removable table (which moves against the pilot bench) completes the deck layout. With very high bulwarks in wraps, one should feel very protected and safe in the cockpit.

For a comfortable feeling while sailing, side air deflectors and the smooth windshield profile should move the airflow over the cockpit, minimising impact to the passengers' heads.

Under the bridge, the space should be bright, according to the visuals. Both thanks to the band of portholes surrounding the bulwarks, but also thanks to the deck porthole. There is a U-shaped saloon convertible into a double bed, a shower room and toilet, a kitchen with sink and storage space. The windows are equipped with integrated blinds and a 32-inch LED television with Blu-ray CD/DVD player takes place in the cabin.
