Sargo 31 gets equipped for the cruise

The Finnish shipyard Sargo Boats - modern sports fishing imported into France by the Chantier du Redo - is launching a rear door version of its Sargo 31. This 31-foot (9.96 m) boat, which had already evolved in 2014 (on the original version, the U-shaped saloon took up the entire bottom of the boat, which was therefore very closed at the stern) now offers an additional version. A version open to the cockpit, a more spacious galley and a saloon that can be converted to allow for longer sailing.

After the Sargo 33 and 36 - the two largest models -, the Sargo 31 also benefits from a rear opening on the cockpit. "You could say we made a small 33 from 31. The configuration is quite similar, but in a slightly smaller volume." There is also the aft window (as on the 33) which opens fully and can be kept open while sailing, even in bad weather, as it is totally sheltered by the deckhouse cap.

The major change with the classic version concerns the kitchen, as Eric Martin, manager of the Redo shipyard, explains to us The kitchen was under the chart table, as you see a lot on this type of unit. On this version, it is located on the starboard side, in a large block that will run the length of the aft part of the saloon, with a stove, oven and double sink."

Apart from the galley, the saloon has been slightly revised (turned 90°), but will retain the same volume. The aft bench has been truncated by almost half in order to be able to install the aft door. It now sits on the port side, opposite the galley. The saloon table is electrically adjustable in height, allowing an extra bed for 2 people, increasing the sleeping capacity to 6 people. The co-pilot's seat in the cockpit disappears in favour of the saloon bench seat, whose backrest can be oriented either in the direction of travel or in saloon use.

"In this version, the Sargo 31 will be able to be used for longer periods of time. It was a real demand from the market to have a boat that is very suitable for cruising. The 31 is a multi-configurable boat with enough space on board to be able to integrate this new layout. Usually, integrating aft doors is always to the detriment of the layout, but here we keep the same volume, space and number of seats" details Eric Martin.

Below deck, the forward cabin remains the same with two single scissor beds. The aft cabin retains the same volume, but the layout is reversed since the saloon has been redesigned. It is now accessed by lifting the aft bench seat on the port side (Sargo uses a clever system to access the aft cabin by simply lifting a bench seat from the saloon and going down a few steps).

Another advantage of this configuration is the cockpit, which incorporates a saloon on the port side (as well as an additional bench seat which also acts as a storage locker) leaving a free passage on the starboard side for moving around, as the manager of the Redo yard explains "This port layout provides seating on three sides around a cockpit table that can be left at the station without obstructing the passage between the bathing platform and the saloon."

Like its big brother, the Sargo 31 can be fully equipped for fishing with rod holders, the possibility of removing the lockers in the floor (which act as livewells or fish tanks) to have a free cockpit, a double engine control with an external screen in the cockpit, etc. "Sargo is a family-owned construction site with the advantage of being able to respond to specific customer requests. Another advantage is that we adapt the boats to the French market, removing unnecessary equipment, but including as standard all the essential equipment such as VHF, depth sounder, cartography, etc. Strategically, all the equipment that are absolute necessities are integrated right from the start. Our boats are delivered ready to sail (Editor's note: antifouling to be provided)" explains the importer.

The first deliveries are planned for the very end of the year (about 10 months before delivery). The Sargo 31 rear door version will be sold (delivered in France and equipped) at the price of 275,000 euros including tax (with a 330 HP D6). A powerful version (2xD4 300 HP) will be offered at 335,000 euros including tax.
