75 knots for the fastest superyacht in the world!

Barracuda Yacht Design is currently working on the design of a superyacht that should be the fastest in the world. To date, this title is held by Foners, a 136.15-foot (41.5 m) motoryacht designed in 2000 with a top speed of 68 knots (peak at 70.1 knots).

It was in response to a request from an English client, a speed enthusiast, that the Barracuda Yacht Design studio imagined a 110-foot (33.5 m) superyacht capable of reaching a speed of 70 knots! For 3 years, the team of naval architects has been working on this project of the fastest superyacht in the world, which could be built in only 24 months. But to date, the studio has not found a shipyard capable of completing the entire construction. " A great deal of coordination will be required to complete this project "explains Íñigo Toledo, head of Barracuda Yacht Design.

Currently, the Foners superyacht, built by Izar, is capable of reaching a top speed of 70 knots. This 136.15-foot (41.5 m) yacht was built in 2000 in Spain.

To reduce the weight of the vessel, the hull and superstructure will be built in pre-impregnated carbon fibre, while the custom deck equipment will be made of titanium. The windows will be made of polycarbonate except for the front wheelhouse windows. The shipyard has chosen a diesel propulsion system, rather than the gas turbines usually found on super fast yachts, to reduce maintenance.

This superyacht will be capable of reaching a speed of 70 knots in "monohull" mode, a speed at which a pair of hydrofoils will deploy to reach the record speed of 75 knots. Calculations suggest that this yacht could reach the speed of 78 knots, a record for a yacht of this size!

In spite of the specifications regarding speed, comfort on board has been taken care of. The interior design has already been validated even if no rendering has yet filtered. Nevertheless, the yacht will be able to accommodate 8 guests and 4 crew members in the greatest comfort, with all the conveniences one would expect from a luxury flybridge yacht, such as a large sundeck or a sheltered cockpit.
