When Peugeot turns to the world of boating

In 2012, Peugeot launched the Peugeot Design Lab, a design studio focused on products and services other than cars. The brand also offers three luxurious boat concepts and a surfboard concept, resolutely focused on luxury.

The Yacht Concept

Launched in Paris in June 2012, Peugeot Design Lab is a global brand design studio for the brand's external customers. The studio is dedicated to designing products, services and experiences in all business sectors. Three design centers have been opened around the world, one in Paris, one in Sao Paulo and one in Shanghai, giving the studio a presence on three continents and providing it with significant technical and human resources. Thanks to its automotive experience âeuros 120 years of automobile design âeuros but also its industrial experience âeuros 200 years of know-how - Peugeot now intends to bring its expertise to other brands.

Among the concepts created by the lion-faced brand, which covers furniture, bicycles and product design, it has tried its hand at the world of boating and board sports, proposing models of boats, yachts and surfboards, each more luxurious than the last, and some reminiscent of the codes of automotive design.

The yacht concept by Thomas Rohm

This 30-meter monohull features a unique architecture that perfectly integrates the coachroof into the hull's lines, with long, flush glass surfaces for exceptional natural light, worthy of a loft. Cabins are located below deck, covered in wood. Cable ends are integrated below deck, directing the space and allowing totally free and safe circulation on the ship. Automatic furling systems store the ropes, and electric winches provide fingertip control. Its ease of use and piloting emphasize on-board conviviality and safety without sacrificing performance or aesthetics.

The Powerboat concept by Thomas Josson

This new, luxurious two-seater powerboat concept has been designed without compromise. With its stretched proportions and sleek profile, it suggests power and high performance. Its straight, slender bow and long hull allow it to cut through waves with ease, ensuring outstanding stability and speed. Featuring exclusive finishes, the hull is lacquered gray and the deck is covered in natural light wood, with dynamic, refined contours. A perfectly integrated staircase at the stern leads to a floating platform for easy access to the quay. The interior design is reminiscent of the world of luxury automobiles, with all its attributes. Each interior part is designed with the same formal coherence and attention to detail. It features high-tech equipment such as a multi-function touch screen.

The Surfboard GTI Concept by Pierre Gimbergues and Céline Venet and Julia Kunkel for colors and materials.

To mark Peugeot UK's presence at the Goodwood festival of speed, which took place in July 2013 in England, Peugeot Design Lab came up with a unique surfboard concept, inspired by the driving pleasure of the brand's latest sports and high-performance vehicles, in particular the new 208 GTI, but also the RCZ R and the very exclusive Onyx concept car.

The GTi Surfboard Concept combines wood, reminiscent of original surfboards, with carbon fiber, an essential element of the Onyx concept car. The fins are integrated as close as possible to the rear edge of the board, with a scalped design. The latter has been specially designed to enhance the board's responsiveness and agility, for even greater surfing pleasure.

The clean-cut design separates the front and rear of the board. The "motion" rear section is made entirely of carbon fiber, with a precise, technical design. The front section, in natural wood, is designed with elegance and "emotion". It bears the Peugeot GTi signature.

The 115' Power Catamaran Concept

Peugeot Design Lab has created a 35-meter motor catamaran for the JFA Yachts brand, dedicated to exploration and far-flung destinations.

Designed for discovery and long voyages, this ship features generous glass openings, including the innovative sky-dome on the upper deck, and large side glass panels on the lower deck that open onto the ocean. The aft area offers generous space, with easy and secure access to the sea. A 6.5-metre tender, designed specifically for this catamaran, integrates perfectly into the aft area to facilitate access on board.
