British manufacturer Caudwell Marine has unveiled its new 300 hp V6 turbocharged diesel outboard engine

Founded by British billionaire John Caudwell, Caudwell Marine aims to revolutionize marine propulsion technology with different solutions. One example is the arrival of a 300 hp diesel outboard engine. This engine is the result of several years' work, and has undergone over 19,000 hours of sea trials and more than 4,000 hours of laboratory testing.

300 hp V6 turbo diesel powerhead

The outboard is equipped with a 300 hp V6 turbo diesel powerhead, delivering 590 nm of torque at 2,200 rpm. This powerhead features a robust, marine-proven cast-iron block, capable of withstanding intense operating cycles. It also incorporates a closed-loop cooling system.

Among the engine's many innovations is a dual-clutch transmission, a first in the marine sector. This transmission ensures smooth engagement between forward and reverse, and integrated hydraulic technology allows independent control of both clutches.

Axis Drive steering system and comprehensive controls

The engine is also equipped with an integrated steering system known as "Axis Drive". This electro-hydraulic system articulates the steering from the lower part of the shaft, with the drive head and upper part remaining stationary, much like the Mercury 600hp. This Axis Drive steering system pivots through 120°, providing power throughout the turn.

To complement this transmission, the Caudwell benefits from a double counter-rotating propeller that helps control the torque effect.

For ease of use, this engine comes with an electronic start/stop system, an anti-theft function and connections for multifunction displays. An option for multiple helm stations or a joystick can also be added.

To simplify maintenance, the Caudwell is equipped with a service hatch for daily checks and easy servicing, from oil draining to servicing the water pump.

Caudwell Marine has announced a very economical operation, without revealing any figures. Data will come later, during testing.

The manufacturer is announcing a market launch in 2024.
