Quarken 35: A Nordic boat with plenty of living space

The second model from the young Quarken shipyard, the new 35-footer tackles the crowded "SUV" seagoing market with a number of original design ideas in a boat that meets the expectations of today's yachtsmen.

Second model for Quarken

Created in 2022, the young Quarken shipyard presents its second model in 2024, the Quarken 35, which complements its inaugural model, the 27-footer, already available in 4 versions, Open, Cabin and 2 T-Top offerings. While the step towards a 35-footer is not insignificant, the shipyard relies on the knowledge of its co-founders, who have worked for Finnmaster, Yamarin and Saxdor, among others. Faithful to the DNA established with the 27-footer, the new 35-footer follows in the footsteps of the new boats we've seen blossoming, described as "SUVs of the seas", with a double-stepped hull, powerful engines and the ability to sail comfortably and quickly in even the most demanding conditions for fun at sea. In the version presented at Düsseldorf in 2024, with two 300 hp Yamaha outboard engines, the shipyard is announcing a top speed of 44 knots, without sacrificing comfort on board.

3 user-friendly areas for living on board

Flanking the large engine bath, two small bathing decks give access to the boat. This gives access to the aft cockpit, the first convivial space on board in fine weather. An aft bench seat can accommodate 3 people forward of the engines.

Opposite it, depending on the option chosen, is a wetbar or another triple bench seat leaning against the superstructure. Where it is fashionable to tilt the bulwarks to create balconies over the water, Quarken has chosen to tilt on a higher axis to create complementary seating, while opening up the space towards the sea. With 2 extra guests on each side, up to 10 can be seated at the stern of the Quarken 35. Small removable tables in the corners can be used for aperitifs.

Access to the bow of this semi-walkaround is via the starboard gangway, which is wider than the port gangway used for manoeuvring. This second convivial area features a large triple sunbathing area, opposite which is a complementary seat on the anchor locker. The small removable aft tables can also be positioned here.

The large open balcony allows disembarkation from the bow, and conceals davits, windlass, anchor locker and even a swim ladder.

The interior can be accessed from the aft cockpit via a door on the port side, but also easily via a sliding bay window on the bow and stern. This facilitates circulation, both for the boat's pilot during maneuvers, and for guests wishing to reach the interior saloon's bench seating. The table, which can be lowered to provide extra sleeping space, is surrounded by a triple bench seat aft and pilot seats forward, whose backs tilt to allow more people to sit at the table. On port side, a small galley, sufficient for short expeditions, completes the equipment.

On the starboard side, the helm station and its double screen bring together all the boat's controls on a fairly compact console.

Modern interior

Like the rest of the boat, with its largely glazed living area and matte-black finishes, the interior displays its modernity with colored LED lighting and light-colored wood and upholstery.

The central companionway gives access to a small bench on starboard with a table and a forepeak housing a generous berth.

On the port side, a bathroom, whose low headroom is regrettable, nevertheless offers all the essentials, with toilet and shower. So you can spend a few days on board in total comfort.

The Quarken 35 starts at ?240,000 ex VAT, with two 300 hp Yamaha outboards.
