My second hand boat / B2 Marine's Djinn 7: "I had the revelation of my dream when I discovered this dinghy."

Maurice has owned a Djinn 7 since 2010. With this transportable dinghy, he travels the different sailing basins of our coastline. He describes his program and the modifications he has made to his boat.

A real favorite

Launched in 2002, the Djinn 7 is a 7.2-meter dinghy produced by B2 Marine. The big brother of the famous Blue Djinn, its price on the second-hand market varies between ?14,000 and ?23,000.

Living in the Southern Alps near Lac de Serre-Ponçon, Maurice has owned a Djinn 7 since 2010:

" I discovered this boat at the Paris boat show. At the time, I was sailing with Macif in Marseille. I came across the B2 Marine stand. It was the revelation of my dream: a boat that could be transported, that could take my children and grandchildren, and that would allow me to sail on the lake as well as on the open sea.

I had my heart set on a recent opportunity, which was based on Lake Annecy, and previously on the Ile de Ré".

An eclectic sailing program

Whether as a family or a couple, Maurice makes the most of his Djinn7's capabilities, and changes sailing basin every year:

" My boat is based on Lac de Serre-Ponçon, from June to October."

A mountain dweller and avowed freshwater sailor, he leaves the Alps once a year to attend the owners' meeting organized by Aspro, the Blue Djinn and Djinn 7 owners' association. And he makes the most of the transportability of his Djinn 7, securely mounted on its twin-axle trailer:

" I sometimes travel 1,000 km by road to reach Brittany. The trailer-boat combination is just over 9m long, which requires a specially adapted vehicle. Once I've arrived, it takes me half a day to launch, prepare and fully rig it.

Once a year, I stay on board for three weeks at a time".

A versatile, economical boat

The Djinn 7 is a simple, easy-to-maintain sailboat. The second-hand model acquired by Maurice was very well equipped.

The main changes concern the layout:

" The original Djinn 7 is very practical. I've improved the ergonomics on board to increase storage capacity. Given that I spend several weeks on board, I need to optimize space on board. I've also installed a cooler.

On deck, I replaced the asymmetric spinnaker with a gennaker with a bowsprit. I also bought a tender, which I store under the cockpit. I remove the ladder and slide the tender underneath.

I also installed an electric winch to mount it on its trailer.

I really fell in love with this boat. My only complaint is that it takes a little time to rig. But that's just a detail.

Maintenance is really affordable. Economically, everything is do-it-yourself, for reasonable amounts. And the exchange of tips and tricks between owners is really beneficial ".

Aspro, a dynamic owners' association

An active member of the association since the purchase of his Djinn 7, Maurice has nothing but praise for Aspro:

" I've done 12 gatherings, twice in the Mediterranean and the others on the Atlantic coast or in Brittany. The sharing and exchanges we set up with the association are really constructive. We have a great time. I've been lucky enough to discover the whole coastline, from Brest to the Arcachon Basin, thanks to the association. The owner-buddies help us discover their waters, and I might not have been able to go there on my own! "
