Sea-Doo is launching a campaign to make personal watercraft operators more responsible. Jet skis often carry a deplorable image among yachtsmen and beachgoers alike. So much so, in fact, that some local authorities have introduced by-laws prohibiting the use of these machines on their coasts. Aware of this problem, Sea-Doo, the leading brand in personal watercraft, has launched a charter in an attempt to federate users and curb their use.
A charter to sign
The charter is based on 3 main themes:
- Security
- Environment
- Best practices

Safety reminds us of the importance of sailing with an eye on the surroundings, and wearing at least the compulsory equipment: lifejacket, neoprene shorts and circuit-breaker. For the environment, Sea-Doo reminds us that there are prohibited zones and that we must respect the natural environment in which we practice. Finally, good practices, or naval etiquette, ask users to avoid passing close to boats or bathers, and to always bear in mind the noise pollution they produce.
Tutorials to explain
Adherence to the charter is publicized via web messages, as well as through the brand's dealers and rental companies. Events are planned to involve customers and ask them to sign the charter. Tutorial and educational videos are planned to encourage customers to respect the charter. For example, it will be explained how to refuel without the risk of dumping fuel into the sea.

A worldwide program
The Responsible Rider program isn't just for jets. In fact, it's a program initiated by the BRP group for all its "recreational" machines: quads, 4 x 4s, snowmobiles... The group's president has announced that, by 2025, every product line will have an electric propulsion range. An electric jet ski would be a good response to the Responsible Rider charter, provided it complies with all the rules.
