2024, the summer of danger for jet-skis?

Jet-skiing in France is getting complicated. The manufacturers of personal watercraft and FIN have joined forces in an awareness-raising campaign to ensure that all jet-skiers enjoy being on the water.

Ban on jet-ski launching in Arcachon. The same applies to Marseille's Calanques, where motorized watercraft are not authorized. The same applies to Port-Cros and Porquerolles, where jet-skis are not allowed within 600 m of the coast. Even further than the 300 m limit!

Finding the answer

Faced with this situation, jet-ski manufacturers are looking for a solution. There are now only three: Yamaha, BRP with the Seadoo brand and Kawasaki. They are well aware that the image conveyed by their product is not to their advantage. And above all, the nautical behavior of a few oddballs is destroying their market.

Noisy machines

When you're out at sea, it's hard not to complain about these noisy machines that circle around you. But why do they systematically come around boats peacefully at anchor? Why do they go along the beach where the yachtsmen are sitting peacefully? Why don't they head out to sea and play with the waves, far away from the crowds?

Pipes under surveillance

Fortunately, sailing, when supervised by professionals, mainly rental companies and schools, takes all these nuisances into account and remains respectful of the environment (not only nature, but also the people who live there).

Charters and awareness campaigns

Manufacturers are also trying to improve their image. Seadoo (BRP) already has a charter for the respectful use of their machines . This year, in 2024, the 3 players have joined forces with FIN to launch an awareness-raising campaign on the responsible use of personal watercraft, in partnership with the French Secretary of State for the Sea and key associations in the sector. It's easy to see how important it is to find a solution, or risk seeing this market rapidly banned from our coasts.
