Individual protection
Antifouling contains biocides that are harmful to your health and to the environment. "Bio" means life, and "cide" means kill... What is good for your hull is much less for your health. It is therefore imperative to be properly equipped with the following material before working on your boat:
- a single-use full-body suit
- disposable latex or nitrile gloves
- protective eyewear
- a cartridge mask with spare cartridges. If these date from the previous fairing, they have lost their filtering power. You will have to change them.
Preparation of the hull
The preparation of live works requires the following material:
- a high pressure cleaner will allow you to clean your hull as soon as it comes out of the water
- the scraper will help you remove the old antifouling
- an antifouling stripper to be applied with a brush
- an epoxy coating is useful to fill in impacts or scratches on vivid works
- a water-based abrasive paper to prepare the surface for the new antifouling
- a degreaser will remove the remains of material and ensure the adhesion of the primer or the antifouling. It is applied with a clean cloth.
- masking tape will protect the waterline and areas that should not be painted. It can be complemented by a polyane film to protect dead art.
Application of primer and antifouling
In addition to the products you choose for your hull, i.e. a hard or erodible matrix, you will need :
- a mixer to prepare your antifouling
- a tank or a paint truck
- a roller or a lacquer brush in several copies
And don't forget the elbow grease!
