First team confirmed for the Ocean Race 2021-22

American double-handed Volvo Ocean Race sailors Charlie Enright and Mark Towill have just announced their 3rd participation in the crewed round the world race with stopovers.

Several months ago, we announced to you the takeover of the former Hugo Boss by American skippers Charlie Enright and Mark Towill to participate in The Ocean Race. The latter have just formalized the information and announced the renewal of their partnership with their 11th Hour Racing team. The team will also have the same name as their title sponsor.

With this new project, 11th Hour Racing has two clear ambitions: winning the 2021-2022 edition and raising awareness on the climate crisis, the health of the oceans and sustainable development. The idea is to change people's behaviour for the well-being of the oceans, which is necessary for human well-being.

"The ultimate goal of 11th Hour Racing Team is to win the next Ocean Race, but there is still a lot to do before then. We need to learn to sail a new class of boats and create our infrastructure. Our short-term objective is to maximize the number of sailings on this type of boat. The IMOCA is radically different from the Volvo 65, which we know well. The last two editions have been held on one-design boats and this is the first time that Mark and I have joined a growing class. There is much to learn" explains Charlie Enright.

A third campaign around the world

After their debut in 2014 with Team Alvimedica (2014-2015), followed by a second round-the-world trip with Vestas 11th Hour Racing in 2017-18, the two co-skippers are back for a third season.

"Thanks to the incredible support of 11th Hour Racing, we are already launched and operational. During the two previous campaigns, we had not had the luxury of long-term preparation or reflection on the composition of our team. This lead will have a huge impact on our training plan and performance." explains Charlie Enright.

Transat Jacques Vabre objective

As a starter, Charlie Enright and Mark Towill will take part in the Transat Jacques Vabre, which will start in Le Havre on 27 October. The team will participate on its black IMOCA - the former Hugo-Boss - recently bought and put in the team's colours.

In parallel, the two skippers have established their base at Port La Forêt (Finistère) and are preparing for it in the next two months. They will also maintain a training base there in the medium term.
