Solar Impact, a technological catamaran that runs on solar energy

Solar Impact Yacht

The Solar Impact is a 79-foot superyacht designed by the Swiss company of the same name and powered by solar energy. Its design is luxurious and modern, just like the technology it houses. Comfortable, quiet, the Solar Impact wants to revolutionize the long cruise market thanks to its almost unlimited autonomy, its design and its advanced technology.

The Solar Impact is a 23.95 m (78' 6") catamaran project that runs on solar energy "This new yacht is changing the game, not only in terms of solar propulsion and design." explains the site.

Solar panels for electric propulsion

The Solar Impact is covered with 300 m2 of solar panels which provide the necessary energy for the 800 kW batteries and the 1000 kW motor (approximately 1341 HP) which gives it a maximum speed of 22 knots "This speed is due to the technical components used, which are optimally controlled by artificial intelligence." However, a speed of 5 knots should be chosen for maximum range. Solar panels generate up to 320 kWh on a sunny day. A pair of 65 kW diesel engines is available as a backup solution.

All on-board systems can use the sun as a primary energy source. And its electrical operation should be completely silent.

A specially developed shell to reduce movement

The yard has worked hard to provide great comfort on board, even in rough seas. For example, the Solar Impact has a SWATH (Small Waterplane Area Twin Hull) hull that reduces boat rolling and pitching by up to 90%.

"This hull shape has been designed to minimize vertical movements in rough seas. It is similar to that of semi-submersible platforms (oil platforms). The movement of the waves, which is strongest at the surface of the water, decreases with depth" details the site.

Compared to a standard catamaran, the float line is much smaller since the two torpedo-shaped floats offer much less submerged surface. They stabilize the boat during movement. This system also reduces energy consumption.

A technological yacht

The construction site announces electronic systems controlled via artificial intelligence, as well as equipment and layout that allow control by a single person.

"We favor advanced shipbuilding in fluid mechanics, highly efficient energy technologies and durability." details the site.

A comfortable and luxurious interior

The interiors of the solar yacht have been designed for long stays on board with luxurious living spaces and spacious cabins. In total, the living area of 220 m2 is spread over 3 levels, including a large flybridge of 100 m2 with a splendid panoramic view.

A wide range of design options in terms of interior design, lighting, air conditioning and sound solutions allows you to customize your boat.
