Domani S30, a chic look at an affordable price

At the back of Hall 15, raised on a platform and illuminated with spotlights, the Domani S30 (S for Sportyacht) was an eye-catcher. With its modern design and sleek lines, this 30-foot (9 m) daysailer is a pure Belgian product (built in Holland) as its name does not imply. Discover this newcomer to the sailing market, for which we had a real crush.

The Domani Concept Sportyacht - a 30-foot daysailer for short cruising - was born from the collaboration of naval architect Peter Bosgraaf and designer Michael Goddaert, after a first cooperation on the Zeydon Z60 " The first sketches of a sailboat with "sundeck" were made as early as 2007." explains the designer.

. "The aim was to design a high-performance daysailer that sails well, but with a comfortable and elegant design. A boat in the world of sailing that looks like the Italian motorboats of the Riva shipyard, in the style of the Tofinou or Saffier, but with a more accessible price" explains Spela Cimerman, one of the partners of the construction site.

To design his boat, Michael Goddaert is inspired by 3 concepts "Sportivity, Elegance and Comfort". The name "Domani" is aptly named for its Italian sound as well as for its meaning, which means "tomorrow" " The boat was designed slowly, wondering when it would finally be ready. To that answer, we said "domani..." says Spela.

Designed in Belgium, the Domani Concept Sportyacht is built in Holland by Zaadnoordijk Yachtbuilders in Heerenveen (vinylester sandwich construction) and assembled in Antwerp. She is characterized by her deck livetowards at the stern, her minimalist and pure design, her lines both classic and modern, her lowered roof for the sporty side, her very large central cockpit, and her canting keel.

"The construction of the first Concept one off boat was done by myself, in a few years. It then sailed for 2 seasons from 2016 before being presented in 2017 at the Hiswa boat show in Amsterdam, the Genoa Boat Show and Biograd in Croatia" says Michael. In view of the very good reception, the shipyard then decided to launch production of the Domani S30. "After this roadshow, we integrated all the remarks and comments into the brand new version 2.0 which we started to develop in 3D at the end of September 2017 and for which we built all the models in 1:1. The moulds and the boat were built in 3 months for the official presentation in Düsseldorf" explains Michael.

Some modifications have therefore been made to the first model, such as the width of the boat (2.46 m), which has been extended by 8 cm on each side. " In total, we have made about fifteen improvements to offer equipment that is in line with that of larger boats: kitchenette, toilet, fridge, deck shower..." explains Spela.

At the stern, the cockpit is extended by a very large sundeck, the masterpiece of the design, under which there is 10 m3 of storage space (2 large lockers).

In the cabin, the companionway acts as a fridge (which is therefore protected in a wooden box) to keep this proximity to the cockpit. On the starboard side, there is a kitchenette, the saloon is central with a table installed on the epontille which rises up against the roof to free up space or lowers to enlarge the sleeping space. The two side bench seats serve as single berths. The front end is fitted with a double berth under which there are chemical toilets. The layout is a mix of retro and modern, comfortable and modern style. Sufficient for a day's sailing or even a weekend. Roof and deck portholes provide plenty of light as well as ventilation. Despite the lowered roof, the headroom is still rather important.

The Domani S30 is equipped with a Torqeedo Cruise 24 V e-saildrive electric motor and has a lithium battery with a 6/7 hour autonomy. It is possible to double the battery to double the autonomy or to equip the boat with a WhisperPower generator. "It's an innovation that consumes very little oil and is very quiet, which is nice on a small boat." explains Spela.

Let's not forget either the performance under sail of this small daysailer, presented as very performant and sporty by the yard. The mast is made of carbon, as is the tiller, which was designed by the yard, which could not find a suitable shoe in the manufacturers' stores. The fittings are left to the owner's choice. Light (1,700 kg), the Domani Sportyacht Concept is therefore high-performance. "Upwind, with seven knots of wind, the boat reaches a speed of seven knots." concludes Spela. A fact that will have to be checked during navigation.
