During a training for the America's Cup, which will start on May 26, 2017 in Bermuda, Oracle Team USA, Defender of the Cup capsized. The incident was filmed and occurred as the crew was about to change tack in preparation for the full speed gybe of the AC50
The crew confirmed the capsizing and indicated on their site that the crew had not been injured and that, after a survey of the vessel, damage had been limited. It only took 3 minutes to straighten the catamaran!
This is already the second time that the America's Cup Defender has capsized during training. At the beginning of April, Oracle Team USA's AC 50 had already almost capsized before going to bed the next day
