Top 10 Most Beautiful Sailing Photos

The jury of sailing professionals has chosen the most beautiful sailing photo for the year 2016. Frenchman Jean-Marie Liot won the prestigious title. But the 5 members of the jury also made a ranking of the 10 most beautiful sailing photos. It should be noted that the first 3 photos that caught the jury's attention were all photos of the IMOCAs competing in the Vendée Globe 2016.

1. Jean-Marie Liot (FRA)

2. Benoît Stichelbaut (FRA)

Vincent Riou is training solo aboard PRB in rough seas and heavy weather around the Glénans, in France, for the Vendée Globe 2016.

5. Richard Gladwell (NZL)

Anton Dahlberg & Fredrik Bergstrom (SWE) on the Olympic Regatta 2016 in Niteroi Course, Rio de Janeiro Brazil, because it represents the very essence of sport: to challenge the elements by racing at that level with a mixture of boldness, team expertise/competence and seafaring qualities.

6. Claire Matches (UK)

Unfurled on the Superyacht Cup in the Bay of Palma de Majorca, Spain, because it just had to be taken so the show was amazing!

7. Nico Martinez (ESP)

Team effort aboard Marigan during XXIII Regata Illes Balears Clássics, Palma Bay, Malorque, Spain.

8. Eugenia Bakunova (RUS)

Land Rover BAR on the Extreme Sailing Series in St Petersburg, Russia. "I was inspired by the GC32 class fast hydrofoil catamarans and wanted to show the beauty and dynamics of flying over the water surface."

9. Alex Irwin (UK)

Image of drone filming Bill Steele /Chelsea Lady captured during the Royal Thames Etchells International Invitational Gertrude Cup 2016 during a rare moment of sun on the Solent (UK), during a still grey day.

On an icy day during St Barths Bucket 2016, the swell was strong and the competition boats were flying. I took the 33 m HJB Emmaline yacht while a huge wave was overhanging the boat
