French surfing champions at the forefront of the international scene

French surfers have the wind in their sails and the month of August was the occasion to demonstrate it. In one month, Johanne Defay, Maxime Huscenot and Jérémy Florès have each won an international surfing competition

Johanne Defay wins the US Open

It all started with Johanne Defay who at only 21 years old won the US Open, which took place in California, in Huntington beach. For her second year on the tour, she offered herself her first final on a stage of the women's world championship tour. She had the best total (17.44 pts in Round 1) and the best score (9.27 pts in Round 1) of the whole competition.

Facing her, renowned surfers: Sally Fitzgibbons (Aus) in the final, Bianca Buitendag (AfSud) in the semis, Lakey Peterson (USA) in the quarters, Alessa Quizon (Haw) in the 4th round.

A magnificent performance for the one who had lost three semi-finals (two in 2014 and one in 2015) and who continues to surf without a major sponsor. The European number 1 only benefits from a few partners, appeals to the participatory financing and can count on the support of Jérémy Florès.

With this victory, Johanne Defay becomes the 2nd e French to win a stage of the world championship tour.

Maxime Huscenot wins the Soöruz Lacanau Pro 2015

Then it was the turn of Maxime Huscenot (23 years) to win the Soöruz Lacanau Pro 2015. It was during a 100% French final against Nommé Mignot that the man from Reunion won the first WQS of his career. His last title dates back to 2010, when he was crowned World Junior Champion in Australia.

This French victory allows him to move up to the 8th place e place in the WQS ranking. This is his best ranking in the four years he has been on the circuit.

Jérémy Flores wins the Billabong Pro Tahiti

Finally, this Tuesday, August 25, Jeremy Flores won the Billabong Pro Tahiti on the mythical wave of Teahupoo. He faced the world champion and title holder Gabriel Medina in the final. In 2010, he won the Billabong Pipe Masters.

Everything was not won in advance for the one who was injured on June 19th during a free surf in Sumbawa. Finally, he resumed surfing on July 27 and the doctors of the French Surfing Federation authorized him to participate in the competition in Tahiti.

This victory is just a continuation of his good start to the 2015 season: 3rd place in Fiji, 9th places in Australia in Bells and Margaret River and two finals at the QS 10,000 in Saquarema (Brazil) and Trestles (USA).

Thus, it goes back to the 7 e place in the world ranking, its best result in 5 years.
