Intelligent boats propel wakesurfing and wakeboarding into a new dimension, thanks to cutting-edge technologies capable of generating waves on command. Adapted hulls, innovative engines and intuitive controls transform the wake into an ideal, infinite playground.

As water sports enthusiasts seek ever more intense sensations on the water, manufacturers are innovating to satisfy this quest for adrenalin. Far from the constraints of natural spots, new technologies now make it possible to shape customized waves, adaptable to the needs of each user. Here's a closer look at these innovations and the boats that incorporate them.

Hulls designed for gliding

The hulls of boats designed for wakesurfing and wakeboarding have evolved significantly in recent years, incorporating increasingly advanced technologies to meet the needs of riders in search of perfect waves and maximum sensations. Companies like Malibu Boats and MasterCraft, for example, have driven this evolution by modifying hull design and propulsion systems to generate waves adapted to each user, whatever their level.

Surf Gate one of the most advanced systems created by Malibu Boats, is based on removable panels on the sides of the boat that move the water sideways and adjust the width and shape of the wave. The device is controlled from inside the boat via intuitive touch screens. With this technology, surfers can create a perfectly symmetrical and long wave, tailored to their personal preferences. The quadruple Quad Hard-Tank ballast system on the ISP of the Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV, for example, can accumulate up to 2,270 kg of wake-generating ballast to adjust wave power and shape in real time.

For its part, MasterCraft has developed its own innovative system, the Gen 2 Surf System which offers great scope for customization. This system adjusts the shape of waves by modifying the position of the rear flaps and optimizing the volume of water displaced by the propellers and the boat's hull. Depending on the surfer's preferences, the system can increase wave size, make it softer or deeper. These adjustments allow riders to customize their wave, whether for a smooth transition suitable for beginners, or for more powerful waves suitable for experienced surfers in search of daring tricks. These technologies create waves of impressive regularity, often more suitable than those of natural spots. What's more, the ability to customize every aspect of the wave completely transforms the surfing experience, making each session truly unique.

Engine technologies at the service of the wave

The engines of boats specializing in board sports have also been perfected to meet the performance needs of riders.

Volvo Penta, one of the leaders in marine propulsion, has integrated speed and wave management systems with its Water Sport Control . This device not only adjusts the motor's power, but also stabilizes the wave according to the boat's speed and load. The technology Forward Drive which equips certain Volvo models, also plays a key role in improving wave fluidity. Its forward orientation reduces turbulence and improves stability, making the gliding experience more pleasant and controllable, while optimizing energy consumption: an important asset for long gliding sessions.

At the same time, Nautique Boats, with its G23 Paragon model, has developed a motor capable of producing particularly powerful and regular waves. The Gen 2 Surf System integrated into this model allows the wake to be modified in real time by adjusting the position of the flaps and optimizing the flow of water under the hull, thus creating a wave more suited to the rider's preferences. This system is assisted by robust motors that not only maintain the boat's stability with several passengers on board, but also produce a constant wave, ideally suited to wakesurfing.

Onboard intelligence for tailor-made waves

One of the most advanced wave control systems is the WaveControl developed by Tige Boats, which uses artificial intelligence to automatically adjust boat and wave parameters according to sailing conditions. One of the main advantages of this system is its ease of use. Thanks to an intuitive touch interface, the pilot can choose to fill or empty the ballast tanks, check the ballast levels or use the inclinometer to compose the perfect wave. This technology, based on sophisticated algorithms, is often coupled with high-precision on-board sensors that continuously monitor crucial elements such as water depth, boat speed and balance. Thanks to WaveControl, the riding experience becomes fully personalized, and riders can concentrate more on their performance.

Wave control at your fingertips

Malibu Boats has reached a new milestone with the introduction of its watch Truth in Surf Tech an innovation that lets you control the wave directly from the rider's wrist. Using an intuitive interface, this connected watch enables real-time adjustment of boat parameters such as wave size, speed and even motor inclination. Simply wear it, and the user can adjust the wave settings according to his or her preferences, while remaining focused on his or her riding session. The integration of this technology with on-board sensors makes navigation easier, especially for riders who want to personalize their experience without having to turn to the boat's pilot for every change. This level of connectivity reinforces the "plug-and-play" aspect of modern boats, where everything can be adjusted with a few gestures, making each session more immersive and controlled.
