Drinking seawater to raise awareness of drowning risks? You had to dare!

Tribord, Decathlon's water sports brand, has launched an innovative marketing campaign. To promote their Izeber50 flotation jacket, Tribord partnered with agency RosaPark to create buzz around "the world's worst drink."

Every year in France, there are 20,000 accidental drownings, responsible for more than 500 deaths. According to the latest WHO (World Health Organization) report, dating from November 2014, every hour, in the world, 40 people die from drowning. In fact, drowning is one of the top ten causes of death between the ages of 1 and 24. With this in mind, Tribord has launched a thick, warm flotation jacket for safe sailing, without realizing it. However, even if it is equivalent to a 50N lifejacket, it does not replace it and does not exempt you from wearing one. Indeed, only a life jacket can save from drowning. With the IZEBER50 lifejacket, it is possible to navigate up to 2 miles from a shelter. The activities you can practice are jet-skiing, paddle, water-skiing, canoeing, windsurfing or dinghy.

Raising awareness of the risks of drowning

When boaters go out on the water, they don't necessarily think about wearing a lifejacket or a flotation jacket, which are essential for their safety. Tribord had to make people aware of this fact. To this end, Tribord and RosaPark launched the world's worst drink, Wave, a drink made from 100% sea water, drawn from Saint-Malo. The idea that gave birth to the project? "We all hate to drink the cup". So, protect yourself!

A campaign conducted in the port of Marseille

The awareness operation took place in the port of Marseille. Two hostesses invited the boaters to taste this new drink, under cover of a classic tasting. And the reactions were unanimous, everyone spat out the iodized drink! By swallowing a mouthful of seawater, everyone was able to experience the effects of drowning. And it wasn't until they turned the can upside down that they were able to discover what was going on. " Don't taste drowning anymore. IZEBER50" flotation jacket Each guinea pig was offered a 30% discount on their IZEBER50 jacket.

You too can test the drowning in store

This awareness operation is currently taking place in some Decathlon stores, in France and abroad: 17 stores in France, 3 in Italy, 4 in Spain, but also in Poland and Portugal. As in Marseille, the tasters will be rewarded with a 30% discount on an IZEBER50 jacket of their choice.
