Surfing in Paris, soon possible?

Born from the idea of two surfers and associates, the Waves in City concept could soon be launched in major French cities, including Paris. Surfing in the center of the capital, a dream? Not for long

Two associates, passionate about surfing, Jérôme and Christophe, with almost 50 years of surfing experience between them, had the idea of creating surfing spots in the major cities of France. When you know that the Paris region gathers between 180 000 and 650 000 surfers ( source 20 minutes ), so it would be a rather ingenious idea to install spotlights in the city.

A surf spot 30 minutes from the capital

By the summer of 2016, Waves in the City would like to open a surfing complex 30 minutes from the capital, in a location yet to be determined. "The location criteria are extremely rigorous and several potential sites are in advanced discussion. The site must be located within 30 to 45 minutes of the center of Paris and, above all, be well served by public transportation explains Jérôme Villeminot, one of the project's two partners.

Equipment and a structure entirely dedicated to the world of surfing

The Waves in the city complex will include all the facilities dedicated to the practice of surfing and its universe such as an outdoor artificial wave of the Wavegarden type, an indoor wave with a flowrider, a surf school, a skate-park, a surf museum, a beach, a bar/restaurant, a surf and skate shopâeuros¦

The outdoor wave, 1.50 meters high, will welcome Parisian surfers, who will no longer have to wait for the vacations to go surfing on the blue waves of the ocean. Moreover, this system allows to surf up to 17 waves per hour.

A concept adapted to the provinces

For the moment, even if the focus is on Paris, the concept will be adapted to the provinces as the two partners explain "We are working on the Paris project first, since it will be our showcase and pilot site, but negotiations for similar complexes are already underway with other cities in the provinces. The configurations will be customized, but the spirit will remain the same."
