4th edition of the ArMen Race

The ArMen Race will take place this year from May 29th to June 1st and will see several types of sailboats compete from La Trinité-sur-Mer, on courses ranging from 300 to 450 miles off the coast of Quiberon Bay.

The must-see event for ocean racing

The ArMen Race is an offshore race of 300 to 360 miles non-stop, for professionals and amateurs of sailing. Created in 2011 by the Société Nautique de la Trinité sur Mer, it takes place in double or crew. The departure is given from the Trinité, the competitors compete until the Finistère point, at the foot of the lighthouse of Ar-Men, go down again on the Island of Yeu then go up in the Bay of Quiberon, in the Trinité. In two years, this race, with its unique concept in the Atlantic, has been able to delight both initiates and amateurs, since it is the only race that allows sailing enthusiasts to participate in an open sea race alongside professionals.

A highly anticipated 4th edition

This Thursday, May 29th will take place the 4th edition of the ArMen Race which will take place in La Trinité-sur-Mer. More than 170 boats are expected this year to participate in the two or three courses of 300 to 450 miles, proposed according to the classes. The competitors will start from La Trinité on a course joining the Bay of Quiberon to the Island of Yeu while passing by the Bay of Audierne, in the south Finistère. The departure will be visible from the coast then large screens will broadcast the race live.

The Village of the ArMen Race, installed on the quays of La Trinité-sur-Mer, will welcome enthusiasts, professionals, journalists and visitors to follow the races, to celebrate the victories and to exchange all together throughout these five days.

A race open to several categories of boats

Several categories of boats can participate in the ArMen Race:

  • Large multihulls (Ultime, Mod 70âeuros¦) - Multi'50 - Multihulls with a minimum length of 30 feet
  • IMOCA
  • One-design classes: M34 - Figaro 2 - Class'40 - Classe Mini 6.50 - Pogo 8.50 - First 31.7
  • IRC 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 with crew (minimum length of 29 feet or 10 m)
  • IRC 2, 3, 4 double (minimum length of 29 feet or about 10 m)
  • HN with the approval of the Race Committee.

All these boats, although different, will be able to compete together thanks to the IRC rule. The only condition to participate in this race is to have a license from the French Sailing Federation.
