The 2026 season on hold
Charlie Dalin's decision falls within a strict medical framework. Although he is currently forbidden to sail single-handed offshore, he remains authorized to sail with a crew. In this context, withdrawing from the 2026 season appears to be a necessary step to preserve his health, after several campaigns at a very high level.
However, the skipper will remain part of the team. His role will change, but his involvement in the project will remain unchanged.
Sam Goodchild at the helm from 2026
To ensure sporting continuity, the team has chosen to entrust the Imoca MACIF Santé Prévoyance to Sam Goodchild from 2026 onwards. Already designated as skipper for the period 2027-2030, the sailor will take part in the major events of the IMOCA Globe Series, including the Route du Rhum Destination Guadeloupe.
This early handover enabled us to maintain a coherent program, while offering Sam Goodchild a gradual takeover of the project, within an already structured framework.

Even if he is no longer involved in solo racing, Charlie Dalin still plays a central role in the team. In 2026, he will continue to advise the design office in charge of the design and construction of Sam Goodchild's future IMOCA, due to be launched next year.
The experience he has acquired over many campaigns at the highest level will continue to inform the technical choices and strategic orientations of the project, both on the current boat and on the next generation.

Single-handed offshore sailing is now forbidden to me, but I'm still allowed to sail with a crew, which I'll be doing alongside Sam Goodchild. I remain deeply attached to the MACIF Santé Prévoyance project and its future. My commitment to Sam and the technical team remains total. Together, we will continue to write the history of this boat and prepare the next, with the same high standards and passion that have always driven me "explains Charlie Dalin.
