A new, more efficient hull design
Sunreef Yachts has developed a new powercat model, the 40M Explorer, the second model in its Explorer range, which is also available in an Eco version. This new model features thinner, more efficient hulls, which require less energy to propel at high speed. Built in lightweight composite, and equipped with an electric propulsion unit, the 40M Explorer has a transatlantic range.

A solar skin to power on-board systems
The boat is covered by a solar "skin", developed by Sunreef, which transforms every external surface of the hull and superstructure into a source of energy. This should produce enough energy to run all the systems on board, from the air conditioning and ice-makers to the Jacuzzi and audiovisual equipment.

A huge bathing platform that transforms into a beach club
The main feature of this model is the huge bathing platform at the stern, which can be transformed into a beach club for lounging or a platform for dinghy or other water sports. The two large aft bulwarks extend all around the boat, further enlarging the platform.

10 guests and 7 crew
Four large guest cabins occupy the main deck, while the upper deck is largely dedicated to the owner. Sliding doors aft lead directly to a private sundeck. The 40M Sunreef Explorer Eco can accommodate 10 guests on board and up to 7 crew members.

An electric powertrain
When sailing, the bows should attenuate the effects of waves to make navigation more comfortable, while reducing pitching. The two 540 kW motors give her a cruising speed of 10 knots. Solar panels can generate up to 40 kWp, and battery capacity is around 920 kWh. An extension pack extends the range. However, a 25,000-liter diesel fuel tank will power the generators... to run the electric motors.
