Sunbeam 29.1, a modern weekender to make life easier for sailors

In January 2024, Sunbeam Yachts will unveil the new Sunbeam 29.1. This 9 m-long yacht has been designed as a weekender, but is even easier to handle than a daysailer. Transportable, it offers a reduced draft and a modular interior to adapt to different programs.

An easy-to-manage weekender

After making a name for itself with the Sunbeam 32.1 and its aggressive bow, the Austrian shipyard launches a new 8.99 m-long sailing yacht. Less "flashy" than its big brother, the Sunbeam 29.1 is a multi-purpose yacht with a shallow draft. The shipyard's idea is to offer a weekender, with more comfort and flexibility than a daysailer, while being simpler to manage.

A pivoting keel to get closer to land

The Sunbeam 29.1 is equipped with a hydraulic pivoting keel, enabling it to explore shallow-water anchorages. As an option, the keel can also be steplessly adjusted electrically, at the touch of a button from the cockpit. Once the keel is folded, the draft is reduced to 0.85 m, compared with the standard 1.85 m. The boat's dimensions - 9 m by 2.49 m - have also been designed to facilitate trailer transport. A bi-safran arrangement with tiller should optimize the boat's maneuverability and better control.

The sail plan consists of a horn mainsail and a self-tacking jib, providing a maximum downwind surface area of 47 m2. A furling gennaker or code zero can also be rigged to the integrated bowsprit. Membrane sails and a carbon mast are available as options.

Easy single-handed sailing

All maneuvers are carried out by the helmsman below deck, facilitating single-handed sailing. Contributing to the boat's uncluttered look, this system also leaves the deck free to avoid getting your feet caught in halyards and sheets.

The cockpit winches are also available in an electric version. An electric windlass option is available for the bowsprit.

A cockpit open to the sea

The Open Cockpit concept offers more usable deck space, with an integrated bathing platform including a swim ladder aft. The removable cockpit table seats up to 4 people and is easily stowed in the portside locker. GPS and instruments are located next to the companionway.

A customizable interior

On the inside, the Sunbeam 29.1 can be fitted with two modules on either side of the companionway, a kitchen block and/or a bathroom block. These modules can also be retrofitted, depending on the owner's needs or in the event of resale.

Longer-lasting equipment

The Sunbeam 29.1 comes as standard with a 4 kW electric motor powered by Lion batteries. As an alternative to teak for the deck covering, the shipyard has been using a natural product made from rice husks and mineral salts for several years. The deck structure is designed to accommodate solar panels. They will be used to power the instruments, refrigerator and radio.

Orders are already open, and the first deliveries are scheduled for the end of 2023, before a world presentation in Düsseldorf in 2024.
