RM 1380, a cruising sailboat to exceed 200 daily miles

With a new line, the RM 1380, the newborn of the builder from La Rochelle, is based on the fundamentals of the shipyard: hull entirely in plywood, composite deck and possibility of 3 types of appendages. Visit the new boat of this French shipyard.

Presented to the public during the Nautic de Paris 2022, the RM 1380 is the 4th 45 feet model of the shipyard from La Rochelle . After having tried to use composite planks, the shipyard returns to its fundamentals: the hull of the RM 1380 is entirely built in plywood.

Designed by the Lombard firm, this yacht tries a more taut line. We find the deck and the bow, both reversed, but now appears a chamfer on the deck edge. This reduces the deck surface, but presents a facet effect that lightens the line. The whistle roof is also extended to the helm stations, offering a graceful line aft and protecting the cockpit.

Available with 3 types of appendages

Like the rest of the range, the RM 1380 is available in 3 appendage versions: twin keel, lifting keel and fixed keel. In the twin keel version, the draft is still 1.95 m, which shows the will to produce a sailboat stiff to the canvas.

The cockpit is organized between the two helm stations, in front of which are the mainsheet winches controlling a German-style sheet. In front of the cockpit, the jib sheet winches are well centered in the companionway, offering a good position for the trimmer who will be standing up, not bent in 4. The 2 piano winches complete this arrangement.

The layout of this RM remains very traditional. On the same level as the saloon, the U-shaped galley on the port side and the chart table on the starboard side face the saloon table. This interior is extremely bright with white partitions. Enthusiasts will appreciate the huge glass surfaces on the front of the roof.

We discovered the boat in its 3 cabin version. The front triangle is occupied by a large ownerâ??s cabin. This front point can be separated by a partition, transforming the boat into a 4 cabin version. At the front, the toilet is separated: on the port side a real shower, and on the starboard side an independent toilet. Another toilet at the back also has a shower separated from the toilet.

At the stern, 2 double cabins are located under the cockpit. One of them can be used as a storage area, if desired by the navigator, but always accessible from the inside, as there are no plans to create lockers in the cockpit benches.

RM shows the color, not only on the navy blue lacquered hull. For the shipyard, this RM 1380 is classified as a "fast family cruiser". Martin Lepoutre, director of the shipyard announces: " With this boat, daily averages of over 200 miles will be easily exceeded. "All that remains is to test this new boat to confirm these predictions.
