Speed 28, an electric RIB from the specialist Silent Yachts

Specialists in the production of electro-solar catamarans, Silent Yachts is launching a new range of fast electric RIBs. The first 8.6-meter-long model, the Speed 28, will be unveiled in October 2022 and can reach a maximum speed of 60 knots.

RIBs with a catamaran hull

With a range from 60 to 120 feet, Silent Yachts is one of the major players in the electro-solar catamaran market. You will soon discover our test of the Silent 60. The Austrian manufacturer is now taking on a new challenge, to create fast electric RIBs. The first model, the Speed 28, is an 8.6 m long and 2.8 m wide inflatable, with a catamaran hull and a rigid flared bow to deflect the spray.

2 engines of 100 kW for a maximum speed of 60 knots

Two eQ-Drive inboard electric motors of 100 kW each, developed in partnership with the French company eD-TEC, power the boat. The LiFePO4 lithium-ion batteries, storing about 100 kWh of energy, allow her to travel more than 70 miles at a cruising speed of 30 knots. The shipyard announces a navigation at full power in total silence. Three foils, distributed with a fixed V foil on the front and two foils with adjustable incidence inside the tunnels, reduce the drag and regulate the trim of the boat.

A personalized driving experience

Artificial intelligence steering via the AI Box adapts the vessel to the pilot's needs, constantly adjusting the boat's roll and pitch. The eD-Platform user interface displays all key information and functions. Driving data is analyzed to create driving profiles.

Solar panels for on-board systems

A large carbon fiber hard-top provides shade on the deck, but above all integrates solar panels that generate up to 704 W of power. These supply the batteries dedicated to the onboard systems. The battery for the main propulsion requires a recharge by terminal. The on-board charger can handle 150 kW in direct current, for a complete recharge in about 40 minutes. AC charging is possible up to 22 kW. From a Silent Yachts catamaran, the shipyard indicates that a recharge by the 22.5 kW DC wallbox allows to go from 30 to 80% in 2 hours. A standard three-phase charger can do the same in 4 hours.

An à la carte design

Designed as both a superyacht tender and a fun boat, the Speed 28 can be adapted to the owner's desires in terms of layout, with relaxation and sunbathing areas at the stern or bow.
