Silent Yachts SY80: the promise of the future 24-metre solar-powered catamaran

Italian shipyard Silent Yachts is preparing the launch of the SY80, a 24-meter solar-powered catamaran. Designed to accommodate up to twelve passengers in customizable comfort, it will be unveiled in September 2025 at the Cannes Yachting Festival.

Fano-based Silent Yachts is expanding its range of solar-powered catamarans with the SY80, a 24-meter model. After several SY62 units delivered in early 2025, the SY80 is a further step in the brand's move upmarket.

This new unit adopts the electric motor already proven on previous models, combined with a large solar panel surface area (22.4 kWp) and a battery capacity of up to 696 kWh. Significant figures for long-distance cruising without fossil fuels.

Three bridge variants for three uses

One of the special features of the SY80 is its fully modular configuration. Owners can choose between a 2-Deck, 3-Deck Open or 3-Deck Closed version, depending on their preferences for life on board. Each version allows interior and exterior spaces to be redistributed as required, integrating a panoramic saloon, an owner's suite on the main deck or more secluded cabins on the lower deck.

This modularity will appeal as much to experienced yachtsmen looking for a made-to-measure unit as to high-end charter professionals, with a layout that can potentially be adapted to market constraints.

Performance and range: what's the reality for a 24-metre yacht?

Announced with a top speed of 12 knots and a cruising speed of between 7 and 8 knots, the SY80 is designed to sail in silent comfort. Autonomy will depend on energy management and sunshine, but technical data indicate a high storage capacity.

This type of catamaran raises some interesting questions about actual cruising use: what are the limits of autonomy in prolonged overcast conditions? What are the compromises for owners wishing to sail outside areas with strong sunlight?

Italian shipyard and know-how: construction in Fano

The SY80 is built entirely in Fano, on the Adriatic coast. This site brings together all the skills needed to build large catamarans. The shipyard emphasizes craftsmanship, with attention to interior finish and design.

The use of lightweight composite materials and advanced energy management systems is central to the shipyard's strategy to guarantee performance and sustainability.

Positioning and outlook: what market for the SY80?

With this model, Silent Yachts is targeting an audience looking for comfort, silence and energy autonomy. Nevertheless, the SY80 remains positioned in a premium segment, where the target clientele is international and often environmentally aware.

Its official presentation is scheduled for September 9 to 14, 2025, during the Cannes Yachting Festival, a major event for yachting enthusiasts.
