Windelo 54, innovation and ecology at all levels

Visible for the first time at the multihull show in La Grande Motte in April 2022, the Windelo 54 is the second model from the Canet-en-Roussillon-based shipyard. An innovative catamaran in many ways.

At the end of March 2022, Windelo Catamaran, the shipyard based in Canet en Roussillon, will launch a new model: the Windelo 54. This cruising catamaran, big brother of the Windelo 50, takes up the DNA of the brand.

Safe, comfortable and efficient, but above all, environmentally friendly

Windelo is a marine catamaran, which means safe, comfortable and efficient. These qualities also go hand in hand with a desire to offer boats that reduce their ecological footprint. This approach covers the entire life cycle of the boat, from its construction and use to its dismantling.

Construction and use

To achieve this, the site is working on two areas: construction techniques and methods of use. Upstream of the construction process, a great deal of work has been done on the search for materials that reduce the carbon footprint. Thus, the Windelo are built in sandwich with a core in recycled PET (ex plastic bottles) and in basalt fiber for the skins.

The ecology is also addressed for the use of the boat with the installation of electric motors (and the possibility of regenerating electricity under sail) as well as a deck covered with solar panels. This solution is particularly adapted to the catamaran, a light sailboat which sails quickly without engine and which offers a large surface (deck and deckhouse) to affix solar panels.

Bigger, more spacious

The Windelo 54 is 16.30 m long (1.20 m longer than the Windelo 50). This increase in size can be felt throughout the boat. The innovative concept remains identical to the 50: a protected forward cockpit with easy access to the mast step, and a living area on the nacelle that offers a peripheral view of almost 360°. This space, where the kitchen is at the center of the living area, opens up completely to the rear, eliminating the boundaries between inside and outside. The rear platform tilts to further expand the living space.

In terms of layout, the Windelo 54 does not have more cabins, but the gain in length is cleverly distributed throughout the boat to give more volume and more light (the openings are longer) in the cabins.

A slimmed down silhouette

With the same planking height and 1.20 m more length, the Windelo 54 has a more streamlined design than the Windelo 50. Design details such as the more pronounced inverted bows and a more streamlined deckhouse give it a very attractive silhouette. The performance of the Windelo 50 has already surprised us, and there is no doubt that the increase in size of the 54 will be even more advantageous and that the performance/comfort ratio will be on the mark. This new model will be on display at the multihull show in La Grande-Motte from 20 to 24 April 2022.
