The Leopard 46, a catamaran full of assets that arrives on a market still under construction

Leopard 46 arrive on a still limited market

Well positioned for charter and family cruising, this boat now offers a hybrid solution. A positioning that propels the brand into the future, albeit under certain conditions, and puts it head-to-head with certain competitors. That's what we see in this fourth and final part.

Replacing a successful model is always a risk for any manufacturer. To carry out this mission, Leopard took care to capitalize on its success by improving what could be improved. The result is convincing: the Leopard 46 features a reworked, highly livable interior, without sacrificing performance or comfort. The real surprise of this 46 is the possibility of choosing an electric motor; a new feature that allows the manufacturer to stay in the race.

One of the Leopard 46's strengths is, of course, its user-friendliness.

However, this innovative propulsion system remains an option, and a rather expensive one at that, since you have to add $187,000 to the final bill to benefit from it. A substantial investment, the savings from which will not be seen for decades to come. The choice is therefore more moral than economic. It's also a good way to sail silently and smoke-free.

Fortunately for him, the Leopard 46 has other assets, starting with its very welcoming layout. Without being super luxurious, the Leopard is also well built, thanks to the work of a renowned shipyard. Equipment is also a little above average, limiting the need to add options.

A market that's still limited

This is interesting, because although the market for hybrid sailing catamarans is still limited, some brands have already entered the race, such as Fountaine Pajot, HH with the HH 44, and Exquise, although the 60 is positioned in a completely different category. Leopard's merit lies in democratizing electric propulsion and making it "almost" accessible.

In addition to the HH 44, the LEopard 46 will have to contend with the new Fountaine Pajot 44, equipped with a comparable propulsion system. Also from South Africa, the Balance VersaDrive Hybrid 464CC offers excellent performance, even if its habitability is a little lower. We'll also have to reckon with France's Windelo 50, a slightly longer model with a different concept, but also offered with a hybrid engine.

Last but not least, the price of the Leopard 46, at less than €800,000 for the very basic version, makes the hybrid option more attractive, especially when compared with the budget totals of other competitors.
