Pixii SP800, an open electric hull made of recyclable materials

Pixii is a new electric boat builder based in Dorset, UK. Launched in 2020, the shipyard aims to manufacture its open hulls from recycled materials. An initiative that deserves to be highlighted although the brand does not wish to communicate on the completeness of the equipment used.

Recyclable materials for construction

The SP800 is a 7.5 m long, 2.5 m open hull with jet propulsion and electric motor. Apart from its quiet operation, it is also 95% made from recyclable materials. The hull and the T-Top are made of 100% recyclable marine grade aluminum. The 150 kWh battery pack should also be made from recycled equipment, but the manufacturer does not want to give any information on the manufacture of the batteries or the motorization. It has only indicated that the batteries can be reused. The maximum speed announced is 40 knots.

State-of-the-art equipment

Solar panels are integrated into the T-Top to power the onboard electrical devices, but are not used to recharge the battery pack. Among other features, the SP800 will be controlled from a touch screen with 3D sonar and cartography. An interesting development is the possibility of opting for a remote control mooring system. Thus, the pilot will be able to anchor his boat from land without having to use a dinghy.

An arrangement for the day

In terms of design, the first 3D images of the SP800 reveal fairly clean lines marked by an inverted bow, with a lowered bulwark height at the stern and a completely open rear deck. The layout is the one expected on this type of boat for day cruising: bathing platform, sunbathing area, bench seat with two pieces of furniture serving as kitchen and table, a double central steering position and a U-shaped saloon in the bow with a bench seat next to the console.

Several à la carte options

Many customization options are offered by the shipyard: sail-drive instead of waterjet, heated seats, bimini, auxiliary outboard motor, ultrasonic anti-fouling system

Two models under construction

A first model of the SP800 has been built and the hull will soon be painted for a launch in May 2022. The Pixii 6, the second model of the manufacturer has been sold on plans and will enter in production at the end of April 2022. The construction is done on site, in a traditional way.

A crowdfunding to finance the production

Pixii has already obtained £83,000 (?99,417) of subsidy for the production of the first two units and wishes to collect at least £500,000 (?599,000) to build the team, organize demonstrations and set up marketing.

High prices
