Icom IC-M510E: a smartphone as a remote handset!

Icom announces the IC-M510E for autumn 2021. This fixed VHF DSC Class D presents features previously unknown on this type of device: connected with a smartphone, it will be able to take control of the VHF and serve as a handset!

The Icom IC-M510E VHF can be mounted on a bracket or flush mounted in a dashboard. With its large color LCD display, this VHF offers a viewing angle of nearly 180° combined with high resolution. Night mode and adjustable brightness are available for optimal readability in all conditions.

On this model, we find the standard VHF functions, but also navigation functions (waypoint, GoTo ...). Among the VHF Icom standards, the M510E has :

  • Active suppression of ambient noise
  • GNSS receiver with integrated antenna on the VHF (optional external antenna)
  • NMEA 2000 and 0183/HS (High Speed) connectivity
  • IP68 waterproofing (1 m depth for 60 minutes)
  • AquaQuake (water ejection by infrasound to "dry" the speaker)
  • Connection for external speaker

A free app to load on a smartphone (iOS or Android) allows you to make calls and control the VHF remotely via the Wi-Fi network. Up to three smartphones can be connected. There is even an intercom function between your mobile and the IC-M510E radio!

This first model is available since autumn 2021 at a price of 715 euros. A model integrating an AIS receiver is already announced for the 2022 season.
