Navicom RT950 and RT950 AIS: compact VHF radios with GPS and AIS from 299 euros

Navicom launches two compact fixed VHF models, the RT950 and RT950 AIS, priced at ?299 and ?489 respectively. These devices target pleasure boaters, with integrated GPS functions, NMEA compatibility and, in the case of one, an AIS receiver.

Compact fixed radios: a choice dictated by lack of on-board space

The miniaturization of cockpits and the piling up of navigation instruments are making space more and more at a premium. In this context, Navicom offers two fixed VHFs with reduced dimensions: 156 x 61 mm. These dimensions allow integration on a bracket or flush-mounted, without encroaching on the main instruments.

Integrated GPS antenna for easy connection

The choice of integrating a GPS antenna into the box itself means that no external sensor is required. This reduces the complexity of installations, particularly on lightweight units or annexes to large units. This integration ensures immediate compatibility with DSC functions, while reducing wiring.

NMEA compatibility: integration with existing equipment

The RT950 is compatible with the NMEA 0183 standard, sufficient for boats with conventional electronics. The more comprehensive RT950 AIS version adds the NMEA 2000 protocol, meeting the requirements of modern installations. This duality makes it possible to choose according to the existing equipment on board, without unnecessary extra costs.

The AIS version: an additional layer of safety

The RT950 AIS model incorporates an AIS receiver, enabling identification of nearby vessels. CPA and TCPA functions provide automatic alerts in the event of a collision. This device is ideal for those navigating in busy areas, particularly near commercial ports or on busy shipping lanes.

Antenna splitter: pooling AIS and VHF signals

The RT950 AIS features an integrated splitter, allowing the VHF antenna to be shared for AIS reception. This eliminates the need for a dedicated antenna, which is particularly useful for boats with a single mast or an already crowded hoop.

Watertightness and legibility: the standard features expected

Both models meet IPX7 standards for the front panel, guaranteeing resistance to temporary immersion. The LCD display is easy to read, even in bright light. The menu is entirely in French, making it easy to get used to.

Price and distribution: entry-level technical positioning

The RT950 is priced at ?299 incl. VAT. The RT950 AIS version, with integrated AIS receiver and NMEA 2000 compatibility, is priced at ?489 incl. VAT. These 2025 prices place these models in the entry-level range for fixed VHFs with GPS or AIS, available through Navicom authorized dealers.
