Garmin GPSMAP 1523xsv: an ultra-wide display for easy on-board data reading

Garmin's GPSMAP 1523xsv chartplotter features a new 15" ultra-wide touchscreen display for boaters looking for an ergonomic display and simultaneous reading of key applications. This model also offers full connectivity with on-board equipment and compatibility with a wide range of fishfinder technologies.

GPSMAP 1523xsv: a response to growing demand for multifunction displays

Expanding the range of on-board displays has become a key issue for both coastal and offshore sailors. The ultrawide display offered by the new GPSMAP 1523xsv enables several critical views (cartography, sounder, AIS, engine instruments, etc.) to be displayed side by side, without having to multiply the number of devices on board.

The 15" touchscreen, in edge-to-edge glass, integrates into a conventional instrument panel while reducing the overall footprint. This solution is of particular interest to units with compact helm stations.

Simultaneous use of data: an interface designed for greater fluidity

With its side-mounted controls and customizable split screen, the GPSMAP 1523xsv can display several sources of information in parallel. This reduces the number of manipulations and errors associated with menu navigation, particularly in rough seas or low visibility conditions.

Users can configure their shortcuts according to their type of navigation: cruising, inshore fishing or racing. This is a handy feature for those who regularly switch from one use to another.

On-board sensors: compatibility and precision for detection applications

The GPSMAP 1523xsv natively integrates ClearVü and SideVü technologies. These side and vertical scanning systems provide a precise image of underwater features and structures. High-contrast color palettes enhance differentiation between fish, obstacles and the seabed.

The tracer is compatible with conventional CHIRP probes, as well as with Panoptix and LiveScope real-time systems. However, it does not include an original probe, which must be purchased separately according to the user's needs.

Navionics cartography: enriched and updated data included

The device comes with a one-year subscription to Garmin Navionics+ charts, which include daily downloadable updates. Auto Guidance+ technology, useful for coastal cruising, enables automated route planning according to the boat's characteristics, while bearing in mind that it does not dispense with caution or manual checks.

Optional Navionics Vision+ charts offer an extra level of detail (shading, satellite imagery) for demanding navigators or poorly charted areas.

Embedded systems and engines: extended compatibility via NMEA networks

The GPSMAP 1523xsv can monitor compatible engine information, such as rpm or fuel consumption, via NMEA protocols. It can also serve as a centralized control screen for lighting or energy systems via EmpirBus, and drive third-party functions integrated with OneHelm.

For units already equipped with Garmin products (such as Force motors), integration is straightforward. The engine's route creation functions are aimed primarily at fishermen.

Two mounting options: adaptability for new installations or refits

The GPSMAP 1523xsv is available with two mounting options: bracket-mounted, with knurled knobs, for overlay installations; or flush-mounted, for a flush finish in the dashboard. This flexibility means it can be used as an original equipment item or as a replacement on an existing boat.

However, the 15-inch ultrawide format means that compatibility with the available space at the helm needs to be checked, particularly on units shorter than ten meters.
