Test / Pricing and alternatives for the Océanis 40.1: alone against the competition

The Océanis 40.1 is a modern cruiser with a strong seductive power thanks to good seaworthiness, more space and even better comfort. Its price positioning increases the price/performance ratio.

Furling mast as standard

The basic price of the Océanis 40.1, with a 45 hp Yanmar and Alpi walnut woodwork, is very much in line with the 40-foot cruising market. At 170,400 euros excluding VAT, it is all the better positioned as it includes a furling mast and a self-tacking solent on a self-tacking rail, which are usually expensive options. The "short-handed cruiser" positioning is put forward, but makes the classic mast option as an extra little justified. As usual, dedicated packs will be required to sail. Costal or Offshore for B&G electronics, Upwind and Downwind to adapt your sail plan to the conditions you are going to encounter and at least the comfort pack which contains essential equipment. Without going into the all-out option set it is possible to sail for a little over 210,000 euros excluding VAT.

Options to customize the configuration

The different versions of layouts from two to four cabins, the woodwork in Alpi de Chêne flotté and a pearl grey hull, allow you to adapt your boat to your lady's taste and to your family or friends constraints. The fourth cabin is a real plus. Even if it seems more suitable for children, it still allows you to have a real double berth in the forward cabin. All the comfort options such as the electric lifting of the bathing platform, air conditioning, generator, teak covered deck, electric WC or the wash basin unit in the master cabin, to name but a few, make for a very comfortable and superbly equipped boat. With a bigger rig, the Performance sail set and the code 0 it will be possible to have a great pleasure at the helm and the total bill will be around 300 000 euros HT.

What about the competition?

It's a tough match in the niche of the big series family cruiser. To compete with the world's leading group, you already have to be a major player in the yachting sector. The Dufour 412 with its transom and its famous plancha is a leading competitor. The Hanse 418 The more classic design benefits from very large interior volumes and a very slender rig for those who also want to race. The Bavaria Cruiser 41 As for the new look, we won't be able to discover it before the next Düsseldorf show in April 2021. In the end, it is perhaps in this first group that the Jeanneau is also in ruthless competition Sun Odyssey 410 . Although slightly more expensive in initial price it offers a very interesting customization especially with the solution of the lifting keel. But none of these brands offer a fourth cabin, leaving the Océanis without competition on this point.
