SW108 Kalantis, a fast cruising yacht from Southern Wind and Nauta

A new SW108 joins the Southern Wind fleet. This 32-meter yacht features a design by Nauta. Its general organization is based on navigation and life on board.

The SW108 Kalantis is part of the range of semi-custom sailboats from the Southern Wind shipyard in South Africa, with naval architecture by Farr Yacht Design and interior and exterior design by Nauta.

A flush-deck, navigation-oriented layout

The deck is a flush-deck configuration with a low deckhouse. This architecture frees up the gangways and facilitates movement between the manoeuvring stations and the cockpit.

The deck geometry, already used on other shipyard units, organizes work areas around the winches and helm stations. The overall profile remains low, with a discreet superstructure integrated into the lines of the deck.

Aft, the cockpit opens onto a convertible sundeck. The tilting transom creates a water-level terrace, a direct extension of the outdoor space.

A 32-metre hull designed for fast cruising

With an overall length of 32.77 m, extended to 35.51 m with the bowsprit, and a width of 7.51 m, the SW108 boasts slender proportions.

The variable draft, from 4 to 6.20 m thanks to a lifting keel, enables the boat to be adapted to different navigation zones. Light displacement reaches 74.2 tons.

The naval architecture is based on a hull optimized for sailing, combined with a deck layout that facilitates maneuvering with a reduced crew.

A rear space open to the sea

The transom feature transforms the stern into an outdoor living space. When open, it forms a wide platform flush with the water.

This space can be used for a variety of purposes at anchor, with integrated seating and direct access to the sea. Continuity with the main cockpit enhances circulation on board.

A four-cabin interior layout

The interior layout includes four cabins. The owner's suite is located forward. A guest cabin is located upstream of the saloon, and two aft cabins are configured in a modular version.

Each cabin has its own bathroom. The central saloon features an open-plan lounge and dining area. To starboard, an entertainment area completes the layout.

The volumes are designed to encourage circulation and maintain visual continuity between the different spaces.

Interior design based on contrasts

The interior ambience is based on a combination of light colors and darker woods. Ceilings and panels are made of light materials, while walnut is used for furniture and structural elements.

Details such as the walnut slats on the keel well cover continue on certain bulkheads and storage units. Fabrics and upholstery contribute to the overall homogeneity.

Natural light floods in through the hull windows and deckhouse openings, bringing direct light into the cabins and saloon.

Motorization and general design

The SW108 Kalantis is powered by a Cummins QSB 6.7 engine developing 305 hp at 2600 rpm. This engine is used for motor navigation and maneuvering in port.

The yacht's overall design combines the skills of Southern Wind shipyard for construction and systems integration, with the work of Farr for naval architecture and Nauta for overall design.

Together, they form a long-distance cruising yacht, designed for ocean cruising, with deck layout and fittings adapted to life on board over long distances.
