Returns on the races and regattas that took place on our waterways this weekend from May 18 to 19, 2019.

Tour de Belle Ile (May 18, 2019)

This Saturday, May 18, was held the 11th edition of the Tour de Belle-Île . 366 boats took the start of the event off La Trinité-sur-Mer, under a great sun, but with only 3 knots of wind for this first downwind leg.

Sensation Océan (Alain Gautier) managed to pass the Pointe des Poulains ahead of Idec Sport (Francis Joyon) and Actual Leader (Yves Le Blévec) after two hours of sailing. The 60-foot ORMA trimaran won her fourth victory in this 42-mile Grand Tour, after 4 hours 53 minutes and 44 seconds.

The first to cross the finish line of this Tour de Belle-Île after 4 hours 34 minutes and 40 seconds euros and it is a first in the history of the race euros is a competitor of the P'tit Tour (37 miles course which skirts Belle-Île by the south where those of the Grand Tour bypass it by the north): the ETF 26 (ex Easy to Fly) L'Occitane

Romain Attanasio won the Michel Malinovsky Prize, which rewards the first monohull to cross the line, in this case his 60-foot Imoca Pure, which arrived at 16 h 38'29.

The Golden Globe Race

This Sunday, May 19, the last Finnish skipper Tapio Lehtinen crossed the finish line of the Golden Globe Race 2018 . The last competitor in this solo round the world race without assistance or electronic means will have completed his circumnavigation in 322 days, 8 hours and 21 minutes, i.e. 10 months at sea.

Thus ends the first edition of this Golden Globe Race 2018. Only 5 of the 18 starting boats will have completed this old-fashioned round-the-world race.

The Solo Concarneau (May 10 to 15, 2019)

The 43rd edition of the Solo Concarneau the Guy Cotten Trophy was won by Armel Le Cléac'h (Banque Populaire) on Tuesday 14 May at 5 h 57' ahead of Martin Le Pape (Skipper Macif 2017) and Eric Péron (French Touch).

Raced in varied and windy conditions, with gusts of more than 30 knots, this last event before the Solitaire URGO Le Figaro allowed the 16 Figarists involved to confront each other one last time in real conditions. In the opinion of all, this friendly event was a great success, whether in the organization, the varied weather conditions or the competition on the water. We look forward to next year!

The Bermuda 1000 Race

Sébastien Simon has made his mark for his first single-handed race in an IMOCA winning this Friday (at 10:34 am) the Bermuda 1000 Race Douarnenez - Brest after 7 days, 17 hours and 34 minutes of a breathtaking, varied and rewarding race. The match for the two remaining places on the podium was magnificent and four skippers arrived within six minutes of each other! It was finally Yannick Bestaven who took 2nd place, just ahead of Giancarlo Pedote who himself beat Sam Davies and Maxime Sorel by a breath.
