With the inauguration of the Maison des Skippers, Lorient confirms its central position in the ocean racing landscape. Managed by Sellor, this new facility aims to provide a functional and distinctive venue for top-level sailors.

Functional equipment

Located on the Papin terre-plein, in place of the former Bâtiment des défis, which will be demolished in 2018, the future Maison des skippers will occupy 3,000 m² over three levels. Designed to meet the operational and sporting needs of ocean racing teams, it will house :

  • lorient-La Base harbour master's office
  • imoca and Figaro class facilities
  • offices and meeting rooms
  • training and fitness rooms
  • modular hangars to shelter racing yachts

The Pôle course au large, in the process of being certified by the FFVoile (French Sailing Federation), will also be located here, reinforcing Lorient's status as a port-base for offshore sailing.

An investment for the industry

Supported by Lorient Agglomération with a budget of 6.4 million euros, this structure will be managed by Sellor, a public-private player already in charge of the region's nautical centers and port facilities. The objective is clear: to offer a working tool adapted to the sector's current requirements, and to promote the economic structuring of a sector that generates over 35 million euros in annual spin-offs, according to figures put forward by the local authority.

A public inauguration

The Maison des skippers will be inaugurated on Saturday, December 6, 2025, in the presence of Jean-Yves Le Drian, patron of the facility, and sailor Violette Dorange, godmother of the event. The event will be open to the public, with tours of the premises, speeches by officials and on-site entertainment.

For Fabrice Loher, President of Lorient Agglomération, " this inauguration celebrates the strength of our skippers and reaffirms Lorient-La Base's place as a world reference in ocean racing. A course has been set. Now it remains to be seen how the teams will make this place their own and write the next pages of Sailing Valley.
