AMX 34, a family sundeck with an offshore racing hull

The AMX 34 in navigation

Airon Marine was born 40 years ago in Italy, on Lake Como. In order to modernize its range of dayboats, the Italian shipyard launched the new AMX range, with boats of the same size as what the shipyard produced before. The AMX 28 was launched at the Nautic 2016, while the AMX 34, the largest model, made its debut at Cannes in 2017. It replaces the Airon 345, a sporty model, but one that needed a facelift!

A renewed range to boost sales

The AMX 34 is a 34-foot sundeck with a large cockpit, a sundeck on the foredeck and 5 berths. "The Airon 345 was an old boat in the range, and the yard gave her a real facelift, with an offshore racing design. She retains the hull that the yard is known for its excellent sea-going qualities." explains David Boli, salesman at Paul Nautic, which imports the Airon Marine brand. Indeed, the Airon Marine shipyard was launched by the offshore racer Paolo Molinari who chose to create sports boats, with an efficient hull, and has since been taken over by his two sons (one manages the commercial part and the other the design part).

"Airon Marine hadn't made any changes to its range for 15 years, and in particular suffered from the crisis in 2008. This reorganization and the launch of its two new models gives the yard a new lease of life" adds David.

In order to continue its momentum, the yard will launch for the 2018/2019 season an AMX 38, the largest model in the range. "In the future, Airon Marine wishes to expand its range by offering boats over 15m, which was not the case before" concluded David.

AMX 34, a modern family sundeck

In the open cockpit, whose superstructure is enveloping (creating a feeling of security) there is a rear bench seat (with a storage box underneath) with an electric table (which lowered acts as a sunbathing area) and a second bench seat opposite. The tilting backrest of the aft bench seat either allows you to sail facing the sea or to create a dining area. Underneath is the engine hold (but you don't need to remove the table to access it). As an option, a hydroelectric bimini protects the space from the sun and sea spray. The galley is located behind the front bench seat, allowing separate spaces on board.

"The sunbathing area and the bench seat in the cockpit are a novelty, not found on the previous model". Access to the sundeck on the foredeck is via four steps and through the centrally opening windscreen.

Below deck, the saloon serves as a double berth, while a 3-person mid-cabin completes the set of berths. On board there is a bathroom with an Italian shower, a chart table and an interior galley. There is plenty of storage space and natural ventilation provides plenty of light.

The AMX 34 gets 2x225 hp inboard Volvo Diesel, but outboard power is available as an option. "We adapt a platform with two aft platforms to leave room for an outboard, but there's also the possibility of having an integral platform." explains David Boli. "The hull is very popular with customers and does not require any flaps. It doesn't slap or wet." The shipyard announces a cruising speed of 25 knots for a consumption of 45 L per hour and a maximum speed of 35 knots.

Airon Marine shipyard's boats are "semi-custom" to be able to adapt to the specific requests of the customers. The quality of finish and materials used is of good workmanship and a modern impression is emanating from the boat. A T-Top version is also available and will allow the cockpit to be completely closed. It is moreover a version with T-Top and outboard that will be presented at Cannes in 2018.
