But sailing is not just about lining up miles. We sometimes land at anchor. It is in this context that this developer has created an application specially dedicated to mooring: SailGrib AA (Anchor Alarm).
To wet hands free
When you are in an anchoring procedure, it is difficult to think about your manoeuvre while clicking on your smartphone when you anchor... That's why SailGrib AA does not require any manipulation throughout the manoeuvre. The skipper just has to launch the application when entering the bay and leave his phone on the chart table. It is only when wet that the adjustments can be made.
The application uses the trace
The phone (with its built-in GPS) records the boat's track throughout the search for the right place to anchor and then throughout the period when you are anchored and when you move back to your anchorage. Thus the position of the anchor is perfectly visible on the track. It is the one that will be used as the center of the turning circle, a turning circle whose size can easily be adjusted (according to the length of the wet chain).
Do not leave the defined area
The application will alert you if the boat leaves the defined anchorage area. To avoid false alarms that wake you up in the middle of the night and cause the application to stop using, it waits until this output is confirmed before sending the alarm.
The application runs in the background and uses the latest Android techniques to reduce power consumption while maximizing position accuracy.
Alarm and alert SMS
The people on board hear the alarm sound (even if the phone is in silent mode). And if you are ashore, simply ask the application to send an SMS in case of an alert on a phone of one of your team members (maximum 2). You can enjoy your dinner at the restaurant in complete peace of mind. As soon as an alarm is triggered, an SMS is sent to this number. The SMS includes all anchor and alarm data as well as a Google Maps link to the boat's position. An SMS is sent every 15 minutes with the new information until the alarm stops.
For specific anchorages
For complicated anchorages, a hexagonal (not circular) anchor zone can be defined. By simply moving the 6 points on the screen, you can create an area that protects against a hazard, for example if the wind changes.
A Free Android application
The SailGrib AA application is free of charge. A Premium subscription offers additional options:
- define on the screen a hexagonal and editable turning zone.
- receive an SMS in case of an alarm.
- query the application by SMS at any time.
- set the alarm strategy between: immediate, balanced and conservative.
