We often hear on the pontoons or in the bar at the Yacht Club: "Why buy a portable GPS, I've already got the one on my phone?". That's true. PORTABLE GPS

Benefits

- Waterproof and even floating!
- Shockproof

- Studied graphic interface
- Available cards
- Battery-operated
- Operates without connection to any telephone network

Disadvantage

- No internet connection (mainly used to receive weather forecasts)
- Device dedicated to a single mapping application
- Fixed solution, no easy software upgrades
- High price for a single-use device

SMARTPHONE

Benefits

- Numerous applications
- Internet connection (data update within range)
- No extra cost (you already have the device)
- Scalable solution with new application releases
- Multi-touch screen for ease of use

Disadvantage

- No weather protection (except for a few waterproof models)
- Fear the shocks
- Screen difficult to read in direct sunlight
- Unsuitable battery life, no battery option
- Mapping function inoperative if smartphone is used for other purposes (e.g. making a phone call!)
- Does not work with gloves
