Interview / Nautic de Paris 2017: "The image of the sailboat makes the visitor dream even more"

Hall 1 at the Nautic in Paris

The Paris Boat Show - which will take place from 2 to 10 December 2017 at the Porte de Versailles - will be welcoming a new space. "Welcome on board" is a new concept that allows 5 yachts to be freely visited. But why only sailing boats? This is the question we asked the organization.

Visit self-service sailing boats

As we explained in a previous topic, visitors to the Nautic were disappointed not to be able to visit boats easily. Because the Paris boat show is indeed a show for enthusiasts, but it sometimes proves difficult to be able to get on board its splendid units that make you dream... from the ground..

The organization has therefore decided to launch a new space called " Welcome aboard " and who proposes to visit 5 sailing boats freely. A choice that the organization explains to us.

"It's all about image. Sailboats make visitors dream more. When it comes to water sports, and they have always done so, sailing boats convey this image of freedom and great offshore races. However, it is not excluded that the following year (NDRL: 2018), motor boats will also be in the spotlight. The aim this year was to focus on sailboats, and in particular the beautiful sailing yachts that are not usually accessible to visitors. This is a first operation, but if it is successful it will be renewed and developed with more boats.

We left on 5 boats for several reasons, even though it would have been nice to have more units. We could have put 15/20 boats on open show, but first of all, space would be lacking, and the boats would not be present on the builders' stands.

It was the Nautic's wish to offer this space. At the stands, we noticed that visitors were frustrated not to be able to get on board if they didn't know the shipyards or if they hadn't made an appointment. We therefore wanted to democratise access to the boats, to make people dream, so that they could get a closer look at the boats and see the inside. We're dealing with enthusiasts who need to see the hull, but also need to get around on board, and we've discovered that the public has real expectations and a real appetite for boats."

The context: relaunching the Nautic de Paris

In December 2016, the organization of the Nautic passed from the hands of Reed Expo to those of The Federation of the Nautical Industries . A recovery justified by a breathlessness of the Parisian show, which had lost some of its aura of yesteryear. With the creation of Nautic Festival SA - a new structure created by the FIN and in charge of boat shows -, it is also a growth strategy that came into being. The objective? To relaunch the show by attracting new visitors and seducing exhibitors and enthusiasts once again.
