The wheel steering, the main element of the helmsman's cockpit
The helm position held by Franck Cammas, skipper of Groupama Team France, is in the starboard aft cockpit. There is the wheel steering, equipped with buttons (front and rear), which allows to adjust the rake (angulation of the foil downwind). By pressing the button, it can adjust the angulation forwards or backwards "It's permanently, with an average of two pulses per second, forward or backward." he explains.
The bar is equipped with several buttons to always have one on hand when the bar turns. Franck Cammas rather uses the right hand for his adjustments. "I have four buttons that correspond roughly in the middle of the bar on the straight line." explains Franck Cammas. He must always keep in touch with one of these buttons, even when he makes large rotational movements.
Adjust the rudders from the cockpit
In the helmsman's cockpit, there are also three cases. The front one allows the angulation of the rudders to be adjusted. The rearmost box will disappear as it was an autopilot test that allowed the trim of the boat to be adjusted automatically, but this is forbidden during the race. Finally, the middle box allows the differential between the rudders to be adjusted (maximum 3°).
Pedals and a seat
On the ground there are three pedals, the main one being the red one (to starboard). It triggers the fall of the foil in front of the helmsman.
