Start of the Vendée Globe 2024
The 10th edition of the solo round-the-world race will be held on November 10, 2024 at 1:02 p.m . 40 competitors, including 6 women, are now in the starting blocks to set off from Les Sables-d'Olonne and be the first to finish this race, dubbed the Everest of the Seas. The race can be followed on television at 1:02pm, or on social networks and radio stations.
New rules for the 38th America's Cup unveiled
Defender Team New Zealand has begun drafting the Deed of Gift, the rules for the next edition of the race . The boats will remain the same, AC75s, and the next edition will take place no more than three years after the 37th edition. Competitors are prohibited from sailing AC75s for a period of 12 months, with the exception of regattas.
Virtual Regatta, new features for the Vendée Globe
Virtual Regatta, the world leader in eSailing, has launched a new edition with hundreds of thousands of players. By 2020, over one million players had taken part in the experience. Today, the game is registering 20% more registrations than at the same time in 2020. The game's interface has been completely redesigned. Players can now visualize and prepare their boats in a modern hangar. A new strategic aspect will be added. Players will have to focus on energy management, in particular by using new consumables such as coffee shots or full meals. They'll also be able to integrate new equipment such as a storage device, a footstool or even a shift vest. All these elements will enable players to have an impact on their skipper's fatigue. In addition to technical innovations, the Marina strengthens the bond between eSkippers from all over the world. The introduction of a new rankings interface, soon to be enhanced by league systems and new championships, provides a better classification of races, whether real, virtual or historic. The Marina Virtual Regatta Offshore also opens up new perspectives for the yachting industry. Thanks to sponsored areas and 3D stands, companies can interact directly with the Virtual Regatta community, present educational content and offer immersive experiences.
Voiles d'Automne, nearly 70 sailboats in the running
Les Voiles d'Automne closes the regatta season in Saint-Tropez from November 9 to 11, 2024. 67 yachts and 400 participants will compete in this event, which is open to yachts with an Osiris or IRC measurement certificate.
Vendée Globe 2028 rules unveiled
The race organizers have unveiled the new rules for qualifying to take part in the Vendée Globe 2028 . New boats will no longer have an advantage, and from now on they will have to accumulate points rather than miles in the IMOCA Globe Series Championship rankings. These points will be awarded according to race rank. Last but not least, sailors will have to complete a Grade 2 single-handed race such as the Route du Rhum, the New York Vendée les Sables-d'Olonne or the Vendée Arctique les Sables-d'Olonne,
European Nacra Championship to close Olympic sailing season
The Nacra 17 European Championship closes the Olympic sailing season. From November 06 to 10, crews of these spectacular flying catamarans will compete on the crystal-clear waters of Palermo, Sicily. Two young French crews will be taking part: the La Gande Motte duo of Margaux Billy and Noah Chauvin, and the Aquitaine duo of Thomas Proust and Eloïse Clabon. 20 crews are registered to take part in a new race format that is closer to those of Sail GP or the America's Cup. Qualifying races will take place in smaller fleets and in just 20 minutes, with a reaching start. On the day of the finals, the top 20 crews will compete in a first race: the duo finishing in third place will win the bronze medal, while the top 2 will then compete in a final round for gold.
Rolex World Sailor of the Year, discover the winners
The Rolex World Sailor of the Year Award is one of the most prestigious honors in the world of sailing, awarded annually to a male or female sailor or team for outstanding performance. Created in 1994 and presented at World Sailing's annual conference in November, the award is the result of a public selection process and expert deliberations. Olympic sailor Marit Bouwmeester (Netherlands) and Spanish duo Diego Botín and Florian Trittel, 49er champions and SailGP performers, have been named Rolex and World Sailing Sailors of the Year 2024.
Sodebo Ultim 3 soon on stand-by
The crew of Sobedo Ultim 3 led by Thomas Coville will begin their stand-by to attempt to beat the Jules Verne Trophy. The crewed round-the-world record has been in the hands of Francis Joyon on Idec Sport since 2017, with a time of 40 days, 23 hours, 30 minutes and 30 seconds. Sodebo had already attempted it in 2020, but the adventure ended after 16 days of sailing. For this new attempt, the sailor will be accompanied by 6 sailors: Frédéric Denis, Léonard Legrand, Pierre Leboucher, Guillaume Pirouelle, Benjamin Schwartz and Nicolas Troussel.
