Francis Joyon and his five crewmen have achieved a new record on their Jules Verne Trophy record attempt! They have just rounded Cape Horn, 4 days ahead of Trophy holder Loïck Peyron.

The maxi-trimaran Idec Sport continues its crazy race across the oceans of the world. She has just rounded Cape Horn, the last of the three markers of her round the world race this Thursday 12th January 2017 at 01 hours and 04 minutes (French time). Francis Joyon and his five crew, Clément Surtel, Sébastien Audigane, Bernard Stamm, Gwénolé Gahinet and Alex Pella set a new record by setting the best intermediate time ever achieved over the distance Ushant - Cape Horn, in 26 days, 15 hours, 45 minutes with 4 days 06 hours and 35 minutes ahead of the Banque Populaire V reference time in 2012 (30 days, 22 hours and 19 minutes).

The six sailors also set an intermediate record, that of the Pacific Ocean between the south-eastern tip of Tasmania and Cape Horn in 07 days 21 hours and 14 minutes (record held by Bruno Peyron in 2005 in 8 days, 18 hours and 8 minutes).

Idec Sport has already covered 18,332 miles between Ushant and Cape Horn at an average speed of 28.7 knots.

Let's remember that to beat the record for the Jules Verne Trophy held by Banque Populaire V (Loïck Peyron) since 2012, Idec's men have to do better than 45 days, 13 hours, 42 minutes and 53 seconds.
